Alberta Health Services is seeking a Unit Clerk for the Royal Alexandra Hospital’s Surgery Float Pool. You will coordinate communications, manage telephone traffic, greet visitors, and maintain patient records while supporting admissions, transfers, and discharges.
The role trains across multiple inpatient units and expands knowledge to all nine RAH surgical units over time. You will transcribe physician orders, coordinate tests and appointments, and ensure supplies and equipment are available
Be the communication and coordination hub that helps patients, families, and surgical teams navigate each day with confidence. As a Unit Clerk with the RAH Surgery Float Pool, you will coordinate communication and information flow in a dynamic inpatient surgical environment. You will manage telephones, welcome and direct visitors, patients, and allied health professionals, and maintain accurate patient records and charts. You will support admissions, transfers, and discharges; coordinate diagnostic tests, appointments, and consultations; accurately process physician orders; and help ensure that supplies and equipment are available for the interprofessional team. This position offers a supported pathway into surgical float work. You will begin by training on two inpatient surgical units and progressively build your knowledge and independence, with the expectation of eventually working across all nine RAH surgical units. In this role, you will: Create a welcoming first point of contact while managing telephone communication and relaying time-sensitive information. Maintain patient records and charts and support accurate documentation throughout the patient journey. Process admissions, transfers, discharges, diagnostic tests, appointments, and consultations. Transcribe and process physician orders accurately and efficiently. Monitor unit supplies and equipment, adapt to changing priorities, and support effective patient flow and team coordination.
As a Unit Clerk, you will be responsible for the efficient flow of communication between health professionals, departments, patients and families while maintaining confidentiality of patient information. You will also be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks which may include reception, greeting and directing visitors, patients and health professionals, maintaining patient records and charts, transcribing and processing physician orders as well as scheduling patient tests and/or treatments. You will also be responsible for performing a range of administrative activities in support of the unit.
