Job summary

Peoples Group in Calgary, AB is seeking an experienced Commercial Real Estate Finance professional with CMHC expertise. You will underwrite CMHC-insured, conventional, and commercial loans, coordinating with Account Managers and regional VPs to move applications from inquiry to commitment.

You’ll engage clients and brokers and ensure underwriting quality and compliance, delivering timely documentation. This hybrid role requires strong financial analysis skills, knowledge of CMHC policies, and

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in commercial real estate finance with CMHC knowledge.
• Strong understanding of CMHC policies, conventional and lending guidelines.
• Proficient in analyzing financial statements to support decision-making.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; able to build relationships with clients and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and recommend conventional and CMHC mortgage loans in the region per procedures and policy.
• Coordinate with Account Manager and regional VP on new loan applications from inquiry to commitment.
• Engage with clients and brokers during the loan process, ensuring high-quality underwriting.
• Review appraisals, environmental and building reports for policy compliance.
• Verify CMHC and internal credit documentation for completeness and accuracy.
• Ensure timely rate locks and delivery of related documentation to clients and brokers.
• Create and monitor monthly results reports, inputting data in the CRM.
• Quantify loan impact by tracking KPIs and ROI.

About the day-to-day:

• Evaluate and recommend conventional and CMHC mortgage loans in the Region in accordance with procedures and policy guidelines.
• Coordinate with Account Manager and regional VP on new loan applications for all types of real estate transactions from inquiry stage to formal commitment.
• Engage directly with clients and brokers throughout the loan application process, ensuring high-quality underwriting standards and cultivating strong, professional relationships.
• Review appraisals, environmental and building condition reports and any other third-party reports in accordance with policy.
• Review and verify all required documentation from CMHC and the internal credit approval team to ensure completeness and compliance.
• Ensure timely and accurate execution of rate locks and delivery of all related documentation to clients and brokers.
• Create and monitor monthly results reports, including inputting data through CRM.
• Be able to quantify the impact of loans by focusing on improving key metrics, KPIs, and maximizing ROI.

About the qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience in the commercial real estate finance industry with a strong understanding of Canadian commercial real estate markets.
• Strong financial background and acumen.
• Comprehensive understanding of CMHC policies, corporate lending guidelines, and regional market dynamics.
• Proficient in analyzing financial statements to support informed decision-making.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management abilities.
• Skilled at prioritizing tasks effectively to meet business objectives.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including data analysis, visualization, and automation.
• Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively within teams.
• Well-versed in Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance requirements.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Bilingual (French/English) an asset.
• Thrives under pressure, consistently delivering results within tight deadlines.
• CFA, CPA, MFin, or equivalent qualifications are preferred.

About the work environment:

Peoples Group is pleased to offer employees a competitive annual salary plus a discretionary profit share opportunity. Salary for this position will vary between $70,000 and $80,000 per year depending on the knowledge, skills, abilities and experience that the chosen candidate possesses.
