Job summary

Peoples Group, with offices across Canada, is hiring a Senior Funder to lead complex commercial mortgage funding initiatives from the Toronto base, with relocation to commutable locations as needed. The role emphasizes accuracy, compliance, and mentorship within a fast-paced environment.

You will oversee multifamily construction funding, CMHC-insured transactions, and syndications while guiding junior team members and driving process improvements.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in commercial mortgage funding.
  • Bilingual (French/English) is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with multifamily cost-to-complete construction draws and CMHC insured mortgage funding is required.
  • Strong understanding of commercial loan documentation and security structures.
  • Experience funding complex commercial transactions and syndicated deals is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of lending regulations, PPSA registrations, and commercial credit processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple transactions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience working with legal documentation and external counsel, construction draws.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute the most complex or high-risk commercial mortgage transactions, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Manage and oversee multifamily construction loan funding, including cost-to-complete reviews and holdback management.
  • Administer CMHC-insured mortgage transactions and ensure insurer conditions are met.
  • Support funding activities across all commercial loan types during peak volume periods.
  • Perform in-depth reviews of loan setup and entity structures, identifying discrepancies or risks.
  • Manage complex disbursements and system entries with accuracy.
  • Support AML awareness, monthly monitoring, and PPSA renewals.
  • Identify, assess, and elevate risks to ensure enforceability and audit readiness.
  • Contribute to process improvements and controls.
  • Provide guidance to junior funders and assist with onboarding.

Job description

We are hiring for this position out of our Toronto office. Successful candidates who apply outside of these areas will be expected to relocate and reside in a location that is within a commutable distance.

About The Role

The Senior Funder is responsible for leading complex commercial mortgage funding and closing activities across a diverse portfolio, including construction CMHC-insured, and multi-entity transactions. Acting as a senior subject matter expert, the role ensures accurate and timely funding execution, compliance with credit, legal, and operational requirements, and security monitoring, and risk mitigation activities. The Senior Funder also supports projects and report monitoring, contributes to process improvements and operational initiatives, and provides guidance and mentorship to junior team members.

About The Day-to-day
  • Lead and execute the most complex or high-risk commercial mortgage transactions (e.g., multifamily construction financing, CMHC-insured mortgages, letters of credit, multi-entity structures, syndicated facilities, time-sensitive closings), ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with credit, legal, and operational requirements.
  • Manage and oversee multifamily construction loan funding, including cost-to-complete reviews, construction raw administration, holdback management, and compliance with approved lending insurer requirements.
  • Administer and support CMHC-insured mortgage transactions, ensuring all insurer conditions, funding requirements, and reporting obligations are satisfied throughout the funding lifecycle.
  • Support funding activities across all commercial loan types, stepping in on escalated files or peak volume periods to ensure continuity of delivery and adherence to service standards.
  • Perform in-depth reviews of loan setup, documentation, and understanding of entity structures, applying advanced judgement to ensure alignment with credit intent and identifying discrepancies or risks.
  • Manage complex financial disbursements (cost-to-complete, tax holdbacks, interest adjustments) and system entries, ensuring accuracy and resolving system-related issues.
  • Support ongoing compliance activities including AML Awareness, monthly monitoring of security follow-up items, and management of PPSA renewals.
  • Identify, assess, and elevate risks ensuring continued enforceability and audit readiness.
  • Contribute to or lead special initiatives, including process enhancements, workflow optimization to improve efficiency, and controls.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance to junior funders, assist with onboarding and training, act as a subject matter resource to promote consistency in execution across the team.
About The Qualifications

Peoples Group is pleased to offer employees a competitive annual salary plus a discretionary profit share opportunity. Salary for this position will vary between $65,000 and $75,000 per year depending on the knowledge, skills, abilities and experience that the chosen candidate possesses.
