Job summary

Westland Insurance Group Ltd. in Surrey, BC is seeking an Underwriting Assistant, Marine to support our underwriting team with administrative and technical tasks while expanding marine knowledge.

This hybrid role offers exposure to brokers, policy administration, and timely service. Working with experienced underwriters, you will process new business, renewals, endorsements and policy documents, maintain records for vessels, and build strong broker relationships.

Qualifications

• Previous administrative, customer service, or insurance experience is required.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills are essential.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities are important.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new systems is expected.

Responsibilities

• Support Underwriters with policy administration, document management, and underwriting activities.
• Process new business, renewals, endorsements, cancellations, and policy documentation accurately.
• Maintain client, vessel, and policy records, ensuring completeness of applications and documents.
• Monitor outstanding requirements and coordinate with brokers and internal teams for timely service.
• Learn marine underwriting guidelines and risk assessment fundamentals while developing expertise.

We're searching for an Underwriting Assistant, Marine. This is a hybrid position based out of our Surrey, BC office. We're also open to remote candidates located elsewhere in British Columbia. Are you searching for new possibilities?

We're looking for an Underwriting Assistant, Marine to join our team at Westland Insurance Group Ltd.In this role, you'll support our Underwriting team by providing administrative and technical expertise while developing your underwriting knowledge and building strong relationships with brokers and internal partners. Your work will help ensure the efficient delivery of marine insurance solutions and exceptional service.

Expected Compensation: The expected hiring range for this role is $36,800 to $46,000 based on a 35 hour work week. Actual offered salary will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience, as well as market conditions for the role, and internal equity.

As an Underwriting Assistant , Marine, you'll play an important role in supporting the underwriting process while developing the technical knowledge and skills needed for a rewarding career in insurance. You'll work alongside experienced underwriters, gaining hands-on exposure to marine insurance while helping deliver timely, accurate service to our broker partners.

Once here, you'll:

• Support Underwriters with policy administration, document management, and underwriting activities
• Process new business, renewals, endorsements, cancellations, and policy documentation accurately and efficiently
• Maintain client, vessel, and policy records while ensuring applications and supporting documentation are complete
• Monitor outstanding requirements and follow up with brokers and internal stakeholders to provide timely service
• Work with Adobe/Foxit for PDF’s: creating & editing documents/templates, importing/exporting data, etc
• Learn marine underwriting guidelines, insurance terminology, and risk assessment fundamentals while developing your underwriting expertise
• Build strong relationships with brokers and internal teams while contributing to a collaborative, service-focused environment
