Job summary

Sovereign Insurance is seeking an energetic Underwriting Assistant for a 12‑month temporary assignment in a hybrid work model (2 days in office). You will support underwriters by entering new business, endorsements and renewals, and by handling related administrative tasks.

The role requires 2–3 years of insurance experience and a High School Diploma; CIP courses are an asset. You will help train junior staff and assist with workflow, risk inspections, and broker information gathering.

  • Minimum 2–3 years insurance industry experience.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • CIP courses an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Enter new business, endorsements and renewals and issue policies.
  • Train and mentor staff and assist team lead/manager with workflow.
  • Order risk inspections for underwriters as requested.
  • Prepare and maintain basic file setup documents subject to underwriter’s approval.
  • Obtain additional information from Brokers as required by the Underwriter.

We are looking for an energetic, experienced Underwriting Assistant to join our UA team. The successful candidate will provide support to our underwriters through collaboration and performing a variety of administrative duties associated with the underwriting function.

How you will create impact:
  • Completing the entry of new business, endorsements and renewals into the system and issuing policies.
  • Training and mentoring less experienced staff, as well as assisting team lead or manager with workflow and creation of a team-oriented approach to meeting Regional and Corporate goals.
  • Ordering risk inspections for underwriters, as requested.
  • Preparing and maintaining basic file set up documents subject to the underwriter’s approval.
  • Obtaining additional information from Brokers as required by the Underwriter.
To join our team:
  • Minimum 2–3 years insurance industry experience, preferably commercial insurance.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) courses an asset.

Expected salary/hourly range $43,550- $72,583

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Sovereign in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
