Job summary

Sovereign Insurance is seeking a dynamic claims professional to lead a portfolio of commercial property and liability claims in a hybrid in-office setting. You will set up investigations, advise adjusters and solicitors, and liaise with underwriting to manage risk effectively.

The role requires 3–10 years of multi-line claims experience, knowledge of policy wordings, and a CIP/FCIP designation or progress toward it. A collaborative, client‑focused mindset is essential for success.

Qualifications

  • 3–10 years of claims experience with multi-line emphasis.
  • Experience handling commercial property and equipment breakdown is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Guidewire in a paperless environment is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and investigate claims within authority, guiding adjusters, appraisers and solicitors to timely resolution.
  • Review policy wordings, loss information and draft coverage letters as needed.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of coverage, settlement methods and file management.
  • Report on loss and expense reserves within guidelines.
  • Collaborate with underwriting and share risk information as appropriate.

Our Claims Management Team is looking for a dynamic self-starter with a broad claims handling background. Utilizing previous experience and established corporate philosophies, policies, procedures and standards, the successful candidate will oversee a diverse portfolio of commercial property and liability claims.

How you will create impact:

Setting up and investigating claims within authority level on a full handle and examining basis, providing control and direction to adjusters, appraisers, and solicitors to ensure claims advance in a timely manner.

Reviewing and interpreting the insurance policy wordings, loss information and drafting coverage letters as required.

Maintaining extensive knowledge of insurance coverage, settlement methods, procedure, investigation methods, and creative negotiation skills and file management.

Reporting on loss and expense reserves within established guidelines.

Liaising, collaborating and maintaining good relationships with the underwriting team, submitting risk information where appropriate.

  • Attend training, meetings and industry events as an individual and team contributor as needed.

To join our team:
  • A minimum of 3-10 years claims experience with an emphasis on multi-line claims.
  • Previous experience handling commercial property and equipment breakdown an asset.
  • Previous experience with Guidewire in a paperless claims environment is beneficial.
  • CIP, FCIP or working towards designation required.

Detail oriented work that requires a high degree of mental concentration for extended periods of time.

You will provide support to clients who are experiencing a personal or financial loss. A high degree of confidentiality and discretion is required.

You will be attending mediations, settlement conferences and court proceedings as required.

Salary information

Expected salary range $60,574 to $100,956

Salary placement

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
