Job summary

The Co-operators Group is seeking a Supervisor, Underwriting in Calgary to lead Underwriting Operations Leads, Underwriters and Specialists. This permanent role focuses on guiding teams, aligning plans with goals, and ensuring consistent decision-making across product lines.

You will coach and develop staff, manage performance, and participate in budgeting while maintaining a strong client focus and profitability. Hybrid work arrangements apply with a 12-month temporary contract.

Qualifications

• Five years of related insurance experience.
• Post-secondary degree in Business, Commerce or related discipline.
• Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation required.
• Strong knowledge of insurance products, processes and practices.
• Experience leading, mentoring, coaching staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership to manage change and support a positive work environment.
• Develop and monitor unit plans, goals, priorities and schedules aligned with strategic goals.
• Contribute to budgeting and financial planning for the department.
• Ensure underwriting decision-making is consistent across product lines.

As the Supervisor, Underwriting you will provide functional expertise and guidance to Underwriting Operations Leads, Underwriters and Underwriting Specialists. You will manage and support your teams while developing and implementing strategic plans to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the department.

How you will create impact:

• Providing leadership to manage change effectively and ensure a positive, supportive and professional work environment.
• Developing, implementing and monitoring unit plans, goals, priorities and schedules that are aligned with organizational and departmental strategic goals.
• Contributing to the development and management of expenditures within a department budget by developing plans to achieve financial goals.
• Ensuring that underwriting decision-making processes and consultations across all product lines is consistent and considerate of client profitability and growth expectations.
• Coaching and developing your team, recruiting and selecting talent, recognizing achievements, and managing performance, to develop an agile team and achieve department objectives.

• You have five years successful related insurance experience or related work experience.
• You have a post-secondary degree in Business, Commerce or a related discipline.
• Have the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation is a requirement.
• Having strong knowledge of insurance products, processes and practices is a requirement.
• You have strong knowledge and experience in leading, mentoring, coaching, and contributing to the development of staff.

Salary information

Expected salary $72,847.00to$121,411.00CAD

Salary placement

The salary amount for the successful candidate is determined by Co-operators in its discretion and will vary depending on several criteria including but not limited to: local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualification, experience and education.

Employees may also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn additional compensation tied to individual and/or business performance, or other business metrics.
