Job description

We are looking to hire a Underground Mine Surveyor to join our Bell Creek Mine in Porcupine, ON, on a full-time basis. The schedule for this position is 5-5-4 rotation, 11 hrs/day.

Please note that this role requires relocation to the Timmins area and is not a camp-based position.

In this role, you will be responsible for all mine survey tasks including maintaining survey controls database, surveying and maintaining underground excavation in Deswik, marking up development and production lines, installing wall bar/plugs for gradient control, preparing and issuing survey layouts, performing CMS of underground voids, and doing month-end calculations. Other duties may include assisting with ventilation surveys as required. You will demonstrate the core values of Safety, Health, Environment, and the Code of Conduct.

Reporting to the Senior Engineer or designate, the Underground Mine Surveyor will have the following responsibilities:

  1. Plan, organize, and prioritize all survey tasks daily to ensure timely data delivery.
  2. Maintain and advance the survey controls and as-builts database underground and in Deswik.
  3. Provide accurate and timely development and production markups.
  4. Perform CMS for underground voids safely and efficiently.
  5. Complete borehole scans to determine deviations from the plan.
  6. Maintain survey equipment and supplies.
  7. Compile month-end layouts detailing actual excavation advance and volumes.
  8. Conduct check surveys of mine excavations to update control and as-builts database.
  9. Communicate discrepancies from design to engineering and operations supervisors.
  10. Assist with time studies, ventilation surveys, and routine engineering projects as required.

While our ideal candidate has the following qualifications, we welcome applicants who may not meet every criterion to apply.

  1. Completion of a two-year Engineering Technician diploma; Mine Technicians or Technologists preferred.
  2. 1-2 years of survey experience, preferably in mining or industrial settings.
  3. Knowledge of total stations, and proficiency in Deswik, AutoCAD, Excel, and Word.
  4. Mining experience is considered an asset.
  5. Ability to use and calibrate survey equipment.
  6. Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  7. Ability to adapt quickly to changing conditions.
  8. Commitment to safety and good housekeeping.
  9. Eligibility to work in Canada.
