Job summary

Compass Minerals Canada Corp. is hiring a Mine Engineering Technician (Ground Control) for our underground Goderich salt mine in Ontario. The role reports to the Ground Control Engineer and supports rock mechanics, data collection, inspections, and drafting.

The ideal candidate is a qualified Mine Engineering Technologist or Technician with 3–5 years in mining, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and experience with AutoCAD; relocation to Goderich is required.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years’ experience preferred in mining.
• Experience with underground soft rock mining is considered an asset.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs is required.
• AutoCAD highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Installation and maintenance of rock mechanics instrumentation in underground excavations as required.
• Daily, weekly, monthly data gathering from underground rock mechanics instruments and data formatting/analysis.
• Inspection of conditions of underground excavations and drafting rehab plans as required.
• Complete geologic mapping of underground openings as required.
• Execute 3D scanning of surface and underground areas for volume and measurements; processing and registration.
• Collection of GPR surveys; presentation and analysis of data.
• Assist in weekly mine-wide ventilation surveys; diagnose issues and communicate corrective actions.
• Complete Monthly Audits of underground openings for ground conditions and changes in roof/wall conditions and ground support integrity.
• Filing and maintenance of engineering drawings and documents.
• Coordinate with mine operations for equipment requirements and installation of instrumentation.
• Keep aware of industry best practices and new technologies to improve safety and efficiency.
• Assist Engineering department as required.
• Perform other related duties as required.
