We deliver transportation solutions that are reliable, efficient, and customer-focused. As part of our continued growth, we’re seeking a Director of Trucking Operations to lead day-to-day activities at our Vaudreuil terminal, optimize dispatch performance, and support strategic initiatives.
This is a hands-on, high-impact leadership role with a clear pathway to a Vice President position, based on performance and alignment with our company culture.
Your Role & Responsibilities:
Leadership & Operations Management
- Report to the VP Senior Operations and oversee all trucking operations and staff at the terminal.
- Drive performance across dispatch, fleet utilization, driver support, and freight movement.
- Ensure optimal use of Freight Logix, Skybitz, Satellite, and TruckMate systems; recommend system improvements.
- Manage daily execution while supporting long-term planning and continuous improvement.
Dispatch & Load Optimization
- Provide direction to dispatchers, ensuring efficient scheduling, P&D operations, and timely load planning.
- Step in to replace dispatchers during vacations or sick days while maintaining your core responsibilities.
- Minimize empty miles and maximize load factors, particularly on LTLs.
- Work with dispatch and planning to resolve customer delivery issues and adapt to last-minute plan changes.
- Support city dispatch by verifying trip sheets, checking for time theft, and addressing any irregularities.
Driver & Fleet Oversight
- Oversee driver performance, availability, retention, and satisfaction.
- Manage operational issues such as waiting time, HOS, progressive discipline (in coordination with HR).
- Approve and verify T-checks, waiting times, and credit card expenses with appropriate documentation.
- Collaborate with Fleet and Safety teams to ensure compliance and safety standards are met.
Customer Service & Strategic Support
- Respond to key customer inquiries and ensure delivery commitments are met.
- Ensure accessorial charges are identified and documented for billing.
- Provide input on customer tenders and submit timely rates when requested.
- Address and track demurrage issues to avoid delayed billing or missed recovery.
Reporting, Cost Control & Compliance
- Analyze operational reports and take corrective action where necessary.
- Support profitability by reviewing P&L statements with Senior VP Operations and correcting inefficiencies.
- Participate in daily operations meetings and bring forward solutions to recurring issues.
- Ensure daily dock/yard checks and reefer temp logs are completed accurately.
- Review and approve invoices, waiting time entries, trailer washes, and department purchases.
- Help monitor and verify AirTags for asset tracking and location accuracy.
Team Development & Project Support
- Interview, hire, train, and mentor new dispatch and operations staff.
- Set clear expectations and assign new tasks based on department needs.
- Assist in TruckMate training follow-ups and participate in documentation of operational processes.
- Provide operational support to the Senior VP Operations for special initiatives or projects.
Your Profile
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in trucking operations, including dispatch and team leadership.
- Strong command of dispatch, planning, freight systems, and driver management.
- Experience with TruckMate or similar TMS systems is a strong asset.
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and team development skills.
- Calm under pressure and able to take initiative to resolve complex problems.
- Bilingualism (French and English) required.
