Job summary

Russel Metals in Halifax, NS seeks a Class 1 Truck Driver to operate a semi tractor with a 53' flat-deck trailer, transporting regular and oversized loads within Nova Scotia. This full-time, permanent role reports to the Operations Manager and offers a home-daily schedule.

The successful candidate will have a clean Class 1 with Air, 2–3 years of flat-deck experience (steel experience a strong asset), Grade 12, good math skills, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Clean Class 1 with Air license.
• 2–3 years of flat-deck truck experience; steel experience is a strong asset.
• Grade 12 or equivalent; ability to perform heavy lifting and measurements.
• Good communication skills and self-motivation.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safe procedures are followed and comply with policies.
• Load and unload trucks; strap and secure materials for transport.
• Conduct vehicle and load inspections; maintain records as required.
• Operate a semi tractor with 53' flat-deck trailers within Nova Scotia.
• Provide quality customer service and accurate handling of shipments.

This is a full-time, permanent position that reports directly to the Operations Manager. Successful candidate will be operating one of our Semi Tractors with 53' flat-deck trailers for transporting regular and oversized loads within Nova Scotia. Duties & Responsibilities

• Ensure safe procedures are followed while performing job responsibilities
• Pick and package material according to customer specifications
• Load and unload trucks
• Ensure quality customer service
• Conduct thorough and effective inspections of vehicle and material on board
• Comply with workplace policies and procedures (operational and health and safety)
• Perform daily preventative maintenance of trucks and trailers
• Perform duties in keeping with the Ministry of Transportation requirements
• Strap and secure materials to ensure materials are safely transported
• Operate the vehicle safely and in accordance with local jurisdiction
• Maintain records/logs as prescribed by the Ministry of Transportation and Company policy
• Operate company issued electronic and/or communication equipment professionally and respectfully

Education and Skills Required:

• Clean Class 1 with Air
• 2-3 experience operating a flat-deck truck. Steel experience is a strong asset.
• Grade 12 or equivalent
• Able to perform some heavy lifting
• Good knowledge of math and measurements
• Good communication skills
• Self-motivated, results oriented

Skills considered an asset:

• Overhead Crane Experience
• Forklift Experience
