Job summary

Canada Cartage Group in Dartmouth, NS is hiring a Class 1 Flatbed Driver for local city routes. You will deliver and pickup freight on a day shift with occasional weekends, ensuring safety and on-time service.

The role requires a valid Class 1 license, clean CVOR, and experience with load securement and winter driving. You will operate flatbeds, complete eLogs, and maintain accurate delivery documentation in a team-oriented environment.

Qualifications

• Valid Class 1 driver's license.
• Bondable and eligible to work in Canada.
• Clean CVOR and driver’s abstract.
• Verifiable recent commercial driving experience.
• Strong understanding of road safety regulations, hours of service, and load securement.
• Experience operating commercial vehicles in winter driving conditions.
• Ability to accurately complete eLogs and delivery documentation.
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs as required.
• Strong customer service and communication skills with a professional, safety-focused approach.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate company vehicles to transport freight across city/local routes
• Complete deliveries and pickups to customer locations within the Dartmouth, NS area in a safe, timely, and professional manner
• Operate flatbed equipment in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements
• Secure freight using appropriate equipment such as straps, chains, and load bars, ensuring compliance with load-securement standards
• Transport general freight in accordance with safety and regulatory guidelines
• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections of the vehicle, including checking tires, brakes, lights, and cargo securement; promptly report any issues to the maintenance department for timely repairs.
• Accurately complete all required documentation, including e-logs, inspection reports, delivery paperwork, and incident reports
• Maintain compliance with hours-of-service regulations, safety policies, and company procedures
• Maintain flexibility to meet operational and customer demands, including variable schedules, overtime, weekends, or overnight runs as required

Role-Specific Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of verifiable Class 1 driving experience
• Crane certification is an asset
• Experience securing loads using chains and straps in all weather conditions
• Experience hauling steel, lumber, or similar freight
• Strong knowledge of New Minas and surrounding areasPrevious experience operating specialized equipment Moffett's an asset
• Ability to safely perform hand-bombing, including manual loading and unloading of freight, as required.
