Job summary

Ungava Tulattavik Health Center recherche un travailleur communautaire pour soutenir les clients Inuit dans leur vie quotidienne et à l'extérieur de leur communauté. Le poste nécessite une excellente connaissance de la culture inuite et des compétences en assistance sociale pour aider les clients à maintenir leurs traditions. Des compétences en communication en Inuktitut et en anglais sont obligatoires, tant à l'oral qu'à l'écrit.

Qualifications

  • Diplôme en assistance sociale ou connaissance profonde de la culture inuite.
  • Bilingue en Inuktitut et anglais, le français est un atout.
  • Maturité, fiabilité et connaissance des traditions inuites.

Responsibilities

  • Effectuer des tâches psychosociales et promouvoir des activités préventives.
  • Accompagner les clients à des rendez-vous médicaux ou judiciaires.
  • Assurer la continuité des liens culturels pour les clients.

This position is reserved for Inuit / JBNQA beneficiary who resides in the community.

Translation in Inuktitut will be available shortly

  • Person who performs psychosocial tasks and participates in promotion and prevention activities; - Ensure clients keep ties with their culture while away from home (Traditional storytelling, acquisition and preparation of country food, traditional games, traditional sewing and beading, throat singing, soap stone carving for example); - Invites guest speakers and Elders to offer guidance; - Accompany the clients at medical or court appointments an offer translation when needed; - Works in collaboration with Makivvik and the SQIA, Native Montreal and any other Inuit and native association; - Any other related tasks.
  • DEC (College Diploma) social assistance technique or social work - In the absence of a DEC, extensive knowledge and experience of Inuit culture will be considered. - Be fluent in Inuktitut and English (spoken and written) French is an asset - Demonstrate a positive attitude, a sense of responsibility and organization - Is mature and reliable - Knows the traditions, beliefs and Inuit customs

  • Note 1 : All positions may be subject to a selection process, including tests and interviews. Note 2 : Candidates who are beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Quebec Agreement will be given priority when qualifications are equal. Note 3 : Any person recruited in Quebec more than 50 kilometres from the locality in which she is called upon to perform her duties, will be granted annual trips and lodging unit as per status. Shared lodging or transit if necessary.
  • Nordic premiums apply only when the home port is in one of the northern villages; the amounts of Nordic premiums indicated are "without dependents".
