Job summary

The Jean Tweed Centre in Toronto is seeking a counsellor to support women dealing with substance use, mental health, and gambling concerns. You will provide individual and group counselling and help develop integrated treatment plans.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s in Social Work, Nursing, or Psychology (Master’s preferred) and 3–5 years in addictions. This role emphasizes trauma-informed, harm-reduction, and women-centred care, with 37.5 hours/week and pay ranging from $26.67 to $31.19 per

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Nursing, Psychology or an equivalent combination of education and experience; a Master’s degree is preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience in addictions field.
• Excellent communication and writing skills.
• Working knowledge of the social service system in the designated service area.
• Proficiency in computer skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct client intake where designated.
• Assess clients' needs to determine a service plan.
• Engage women in a therapeutic relationship to address substance use, concerns, and parenting/child development issues.
• Use trauma-informed service strategies to meet the needs of women with substance use and mental health concerns.
• Provide individual and group counselling, trauma-informed where appropriate.
• Provide referrals and linkages for additional supports (e.g., mental health assessments, primary care).
• Maintain documentation of client interactions and progress; prepare reports as needed.
• Collaborate with supervisor and attend staff meetings and supervision; participate in ongoing professional development.
