Job summary

HDR is seeking a Transportation Planning Co-op in Toronto to support a dynamic team on transit planning projects, master plans, environmental assessments, and travel demand studies. You will contribute to data analysis, GIS mapping, policy research, and stakeholder engagement while developing practical mobility solutions.

Preferred candidates are engineering students with a 3.0+ GPA, familiarity with planning software (EMME, Visum, ArcGIS Pro, R, Python, Synchro, Vissim, Aimsun) and a strong

Job Summary

The Transportation Planning Co-op will work with a dynamic team of transportation planning / engineering professionals on a variety of transportation planning projects including transit planning projects, transportation master plans, municipal environmental assessments, and travel demand modelling studies.

Your Role

Job responsibilities will vary depending on the strengths of the potential candidate and opportunities available but will generally include:

  • Data analysis
  • Travel demand forecasting
  • GIS mapping
  • Transportation policy research
  • Intersection capacity analysis
  • Transit planning and design
  • Active transportation planning and analysis
  • Report writing
  • Data collection, site visits
  • Public consultation
Preferred Qualifications
  • Eligible for the PEY program
  • Demonstrates a genuine interest in the field of transportation planning
  • Currently enrolled in an engineering, geography, urban studies, or similar programs with a 3.0+ GPA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of software packages related to transportation planning (for example, EMME, Visum, ArcGIS Pro, R, Python, Synchro, Vissim, Aimsun)
Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate Engineering program
  • Attention to detail
  • Possess strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills
