Job summary

HDR is seeking a Senior Transportation Engineer in Canada (Alberta, Calgary) to lead transportation design projects, with emphasis on transit and roadwork. You will coordinate multidisciplinary teams and ensure quality across urban and rural highway design in Western Canada.

The role requires a PE license or equivalent, 10+ years of roadway engineering experience, and strong leadership. HDR offers an employee-owned culture and opportunities to impact communities.

Qualifications

  • Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads Developer, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microsoft Office applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field required.
  • Professional engineering license preferred/required depending on location.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical role on transportation design projects with a focus on transit and road work in Alberta and Western Canada.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on urban streets, major highway and freeway transportation projects.
  • Serve as a technical resource with recognized authority in highways and roadways design that resolves problems of greater scope and complexity
  • Assume some project management duties and client development activities as needed
  • Provide support to other professionals and technicians as needed
  • Coordinate designs with the rest of the multidisciplinary team including structural, traffic, pavement, environmental, stormwater management, electrical, etc.
  • Support the development of budgets, schedules, and work plans for various transit, highways, and roadways clients in Western Canada
  • Perform other duties as needed

In the role of Senior Transportation Engineer, we'll count on you to:

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads Developer, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Microsoft Office applications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • A minimum of 10 years experience in all aspects of roadway engineering design
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, communication skills and ability to work with various teams
  • Project management skills desirable
  • Experience should include urban and rural highway interchanges, intersection design, traffic management, transportation planning, site planning, preparation of concept alignments, geometrical layout and CAD base alignment plans
  • Must have coordinated survey, grading, drainage and utilities and layout of various site items is a plus
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
