Job summary

The City of Edmonton's Development Services Branch is seeking an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join the Planning Coordination Unit. Reporting to a Senior Transportation Engineer, you will review land development applications and evaluate transportation impacts to inform city planning decisions.

Responsibilities include preparing technical recommendations, coordinating with developers, city staff and the public, and assisting in drafting amendments to bylaws and policies while ensuring alignment

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering.
  • Registered as an Engineer in Training (EIT) with APEGA in good standing; pursuing P.Eng designation.
  • Applicants in other Canadian jurisdictions may be considered via Inter-Provincial Mobility (IPMA); registration with APEGA required before starting.

Responsibilities

  • Develop transportation infrastructure solutions and quantify impacts to provide short- and long-term recommendations.
  • Review TIAs for compliance with safety, transit, and design standards.
  • Prepare written documentation for committee reports, inquiries, and technical recommendations.
  • Collaborate with city staff, developers, and the public to balance project staging with city objectives.
  • Review and recommend approval for concept plans, engineering drawings, and road/alley closures.
