Your opportunity

Dillon’s Transportation Infrastructure Design group is looking for a Transportation Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of transportation projects for provincial (MTO) and Ontario municipalities, including environmental assessments, and the preliminary and detailed design of highway infrastructure, interchanges, and intersections. In this position, you will play a critical role on our transportation project team as we continue to grow.

At Dillon, we operate as one team nationally; however, this position will be based out of our London or Kingston office.

Responsibilities
What your day will look like
Design
  • Lead the preparation of preliminary and detailed designs for freeways, urban and rural multilane and two-lane facilities, interchanges, and intersections.
  • Lead the preparation of technical reports, contract documentation, including contract drawings, construction specifications, tender quantity and cost estimates, and working day estimates.
  • Interact with clients, approval agencies, utility companies, contractors, and other stakeholders, as required.
  • Provide support and oversight of junior staff working on transportation projects.
  • Interact regularly with project team members including engineers, planners, environmental scientists, engineering technologists, and support staff.
  • Continuously develop technical expertise on various transportation engineering projects, including transportation master plans, environmental assessments, preliminary and detailed design, and construction phase services.
  • Contribute to municipal council and agency presentations.
Business Development
  • Prepare estimates and project proposals.
  • Contribute to the leadership and growth of the Transportation group.
  • Develop public and private sector client relationships and explore new business opportunities.
  • Travel to client locations and/or other Dillon offices for responsibilities, relationship development, research, and project delivery.
Learning & Development
  • Commit to self-development and ongoing professional growth.
  • Support the career development of junior and intermediate staff through technical guidance, training, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Participate in professional associations and committees to enhance Dillon’s profile.
Qualifications
What you will need to succeed
  • A degree in civil engineering.
  • Licensed to practice as a professional engineer in Ontario or eligible within six months.
  • At least 5 years of professional experience, preferably in consulting.
  • Proven leadership and business development skills.
Experience
  • Experience with environmental assessments and the design of municipal and provincial transportation facilities; familiarity with alternative project delivery models is an asset.
  • Leadership experience in multidisciplinary projects and teams.
  • Understanding of consulting engineering and planning business issues.
  • Skills in public and agency consultation.
  • Experience in highway, municipal roads, and intersection geometric design.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil3D, or Bentley OpenRoads is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
