Job summary

Cascades Recovery+ is seeking an Automotive Service Technician to perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on Cascades road fleet and plant equipment at our Scarborough-area facility. The role requires travel and a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity.

Candidates should have 3–5 years of relevant experience, the Truck & Transport Mechanic Certification, and solid computer skills. A timely, organized approach and the ability to coach apprentices are essential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Must have secondary (high) school graduation certificate or equivalent experience.
  • Must have Truck and Transport Mechanic Trade Certification.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Organized, analytical thinking.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Good decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to coach Apprentices and work with Cascades Recovery employees at all levels.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure service and repair meet Cascades Recovery+ standards.
  • Ensure maintenance practices meet regulatory requirements (MTO, MOL, MOE).
  • Provide daily assistance to garage staff and technical support.
  • Plan, organize, and control equipment for the garage in collaboration with Transportation and Plant Facilities.
  • Coordinate daily service and repair scheduling with Lead hands.
  • Drive service truck in the GTA for service calls and parts pickup.
  • Maintain safe, reliable, and available equipment; focus on quality of repair and shop productivity.
  • Move trucks between yard and shop for service and back.
  • Complete scheduled maintenance as outlined by the Shop Lead hand.
  • Provide tools for repairs on Cascades Recovery road fleet and plant equipment.
  • Document all timekeeping in Ultipro.

Primary work location : 45 Thornmount Dr., Scarborough (ON), M1B 3J4 – The position requires frequent travel

Language required : English

Type of position : Permanent, full time (44 hours per week)

Offered salary : 37$/h

  • Ensure that all aspects of service and repair meet the required standards as set out by the Cascades Recovery+ Preventive Maintenance Program;
  • Ensure that all service and maintenance practices meet the regulatory requirements for the MTO, MOL, and the MOE, to include the signing of MVIS stickers;
  • Provide daily assistance to garage staff relative to equipment repair including technical support;
  • From time to time expected to plan, organize, and control equipment for the garage, in conjunction with the Transportation Department and Plant Facilities;
  • Work with Lead hands to coordinate and control the daily scheduling of service and repair of all road and plant Equipment;
  • Driving the service truck in the GTA area for the following reasons but not limited to conducting service calls, obtaining parts for repair
  • Work daily to provide safe, reliable, and available equipment with focus on quality of repair and shop productivity;
  • Moving Trucks from parking space in yard to the mechanic shop to service and back
  • Ensure that all scheduled maintenance is completed as outlined by the Shop Lead hand;
  • Complete all required Preventative Maintenance and Repair documents to include inventory part numbers and make sure that they are provided daily to the Lead hand;
  • Provide all necessary tools to complete repairs on all Cascades Recovery Road fleet and plant equipment, including but not limited to the Loader, Skidsteer and Forklift;
  • Document all time keeping in Ultipro in order to insure good time records;
  • Inspect motor in operation, road test motor vehicle, and test automotive systems and components using computerized diagnostic and other testing devices to diagnose and isolate faults;
  • Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of automotive systems including fuel system, brakes, steering and suspension, engine and drive train, emission control and exhaust, cooling and climate control, and electrical and electronic systems using hand tools and other specialized automotive repair equipment;
  • Test and adjust repaired systems to manufacturer’s performance specifications;
  • Perform scheduled maintenance service, such as oil changes, lubrications, and tune ups.
