Job summary

Capital Power, a North American energy company, seeks an Accounting Specialist – Trading Finance to support our growing energy trading business across power, natural gas, and renewables. Hybrid role based in Canada with travel to facilities as needed.

You will manage month-end close, settlements, and data reconciliation, while partnering with Finance, Supply & Trading, and IT to optimize processes and controls.

Qualifications

• Degree in accounting, business or related field.
• Progression toward CPA or CFA designation is an asset.
• 3-5 years accounting experience, preferably in energy trading finance or risk management.
• Experience with trade accounting applications Allegro or TriplePoint ETRM; EPM like Oracle or SAP is an asset.
• Experience in accounting/settlements for wholesale and retail (load following) transactions; Excel models to reconcile large data and understand electricity markets.
• Strong MS Excel modelling and data reconciliation skills.

Responsibilities

• Supporting month-end general ledger close processes and reporting through analysis of results, reconciliations, daily reconciliation and check-out for trading transactions, entries incl. accruals.
• Coordinating data between 3rd party counterparties and internal partners (Finance, Supply and Trading, IS, Legal, Risk).
• Becoming proficient with energy trading systems (ETRM) and EPM applications.
• Supporting new business initiatives and process improvements to strengthen controls and efficiency.
• Maintaining documentation and checklists around accounting processes to CSOX standards.
• Assisting with quarter-end interim reviews and year-end audits.
• Adhering to HSE procedures and standards.
