Job summary

Capital Power in Canada is seeking an Accounting Specialist – Trading Finance to support our growing energy trading business. You will help ensure accurate accounting results and cash flow at the transactional level across power, natural gas, and environmental trading, collaborating with Finance, Supply and Trading, IS, Legal, and Risk teams.

Qualifications

• Degree/diploma in accounting, business or related field.
• Progression toward a CPA or CFA designation is an asset.
• 3-5 years of demonstrated accounting experience with preference for energy trading finance or risk management, or equivalent experience.
• Experience with trade accounting applications such as Allegro or TriplePoint ETRM, and EPM applications such as Oracle or SAP is an asset.
• Experience in accounting/settlements for wholesale and retail (load following) transactions; capable of developing Excel models and tools to reconcile large data sets.

Responsibilities

• Support month-end general ledger close processes and reporting through analysis of results, account reconciliations, daily reconciliation and check-out process for trading transactions, entries including accruals, and settlement activities including counterparty invoicing, collection and payment.
• Apply industry and accounting skills to support trading activities across North America’s power, natural gas, and renewables sectors.
• Coordinate data between 3rd party counterparties, ISOs, and internal partners (Finance, Supply and Trading, IS, Legal, Risk Management).
• Become proficient with energy trading and risk management systems (ETRM) and EPM systems to execute daily and monthly activities.
• Support new business and systems initiatives including process improvements and controls effectiveness.
