Qualifications

  • Trades Qualification (TQ) Certificate in Plumbing with 2 years' maintenance experience.
  • Gasfitter Class 'B' Contractor's License and ASTTBC Fire Protection Technician Certification.
  • Sufficient physical strength and coordination for job duties.
  • Strong communication and harmonious interaction with staff, students, and contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains, installs, repairs and tests plumbing, heating, and disposal systems.
  • Inspects fire protection systems and performs backflow testing when required.
  • Reads plans and specifications for district buildings and facilities.
  • Estimates time, materials and equipment for assignments.
  • Orders supplies and equipment as authorized.
  • Maintains records of work performed.
  • May supervise others and demonstrate safe tool use.
  • Performs capital works projects and reports unsafe conditions.

Plumber/Gas Fitter

(Continuing)

School District No. 42 (SD42) meets the learning needs of approximately 17,000 students of all ages in Maple Ridge andPitt Meadows, and is defined by its determination to keep student learning and growth at the heart of all its decisions.With an annual budget of over $200M and over 2,000 staff, the school district provides K-12 educational services in 22elementary schools, six secondary schools, and two alternate schools. It also provides a variety of certificate programsand relevant quality life-long learning opportunities through Ridge Meadows College and Continuing Education.

This is a continuing position effective September 1, 2026. This assignment works day shift and follows a 12-month schedule.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintains, installs, repairs and tests a variety of plumbing, heating, and disposal systems. Inspects and maintains fire protection systems. May be required to perform backflow testing and repair.
  • Lays out, reads and interprets plans, drawings and specifications of district buildings and facilities in accordance with appropriate by-laws and codes.
  • Estimates time, materials and equipment needed to complete work assignments.
  • Orders supplies and equipment as authorized.
  • Inspects facilities on a regular basis for preventative maintenance.
  • Repairs and maintains equipment.
  • Performs capital works projects as assigned.
  • Reports unsafe conditions and faulty equipment to the supervisor.
  • Maintains records related to work performed.
  • May be required to show subordinate workers how to use tools in a safe manner.
  • Performs other assigned comparable duties which are within the scope of knowledge, skills and abilities required by this position.
Qualifications:
  • Trades Qualification (TQ) Certificate in Plumbing plus two (2) years' experience in a maintenance environment after completion of the TQ.
  • Hold and maintain a Gasfitter Class 'B' Contractor's License along with the ASTTBC Fire Protection Technician Certification.
  • Sufficient physical strength, health and coordination to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and harmoniously with staff, students, parents, contractors and outside agencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to work at the level of independence and with the degree of initiative appropriate to the position.
  • A valid B.C. driver's license.
