Salary Information
CG-24 - $42,442.40 - $46,737.60 per annum.
Duties and Responsibilities
- The Trades Worker I is responsible for maintenance, repair and troubleshooting work near the apprentice level in the building, mechanical, plumbing and electrical trades to ensure efficient operation.
- Plumbing repairs and maintenance on boilers, pumps, and compressors.
- Installs and repairs faucets, toilets and other plumbing fixtures.
- Installs and/or repairs offices, doors, windows, glass, locks, and office furniture such as desks, bookcases, shelving, etc.
- Performs minor electrical work such as replacing light bulbs and tubes.
- Assists electricians with changing ballasts, switches, light fixtures and in more advanced electrical repairs such as pulling wire.
- Assists with power control and wiring of devices that require programmable logic controller (PLC) programming.
- Maintains building in good condition through preventative maintenance such as painting and plastering.
- Performs masonry duties including repair, replacement or installation of brick, concrete blocks, paving stones, ceramic floors and wall tiles.
- Troubleshoots boiler systems.
- Operates power tools including table saws, electric drills, and voltage meters.
- Completes work orders, orders building supplies, and delivers goods to applicable buildings.
- Ensures life safety systems such as fire alarms, extinguishers, emergency lighting, etc., are in working order.
- Removes fire hazards and reports safety hazards.
- Performs annual maintenance checks on equipment and building structures as required.
Screening Criteria
- High school supplemented by courses in a trade from a post‑secondary institution or completion of a registered trades apprenticeship.
- Equivalent combination of experience and training will be considered.
Assessment Criteria
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, electronic or carpentry trades.
- Knowledge of accepted trade practices, codes, and related safety issues.
- Knowledge of WHMIS.

- Ability to work independently.
Conditions of Offer
- Provision of a recent and satisfactory certificate of conduct, if requested.
- Valid Province of Newfoundland and Labrador Class 05 license.
- Verification of credentials and applicable licenses, certifications, or professional memberships as required.
Conditions of Acceptance
- Occasional lifting or moving of objects over 50 lbs., e.g., gyprock, furniture, materials, and toolboxes.
- Required to stand, walk, drive and climb for extended periods and to climb ladders for repairs.
