Job description

Our client, a downtown portfolio manager, requires a Trade and Operations Specialist to join their team.

Role Overview

The Trade and Operations Specialist plays a key role in the operations team supporting data management, client reporting, trade processes, and problem resolution. This person will work closely with the VP of Trading and Operations and the Client Services Manager to ensure the integrity of the data systems. The position requires strong computer skills, attention to detail, a positive professional attitude, and the ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities:
  1. Assist with execution of all trades across all asset classes including global equities, global bonds, preferred shares, money market instruments, and foreign exchange.
  2. Settle all traded instruments in a timely manner.
  3. Liaise with brokers, back-office personnel, and custodians to resolve trading issues.
  4. Ensure all client accounts have adequate cash daily.
  5. Maintain records of trades and confirmations for regulation and compliance purposes.
  6. Update daily prices and FX rates across the security universe.
  7. Set up securities and use Bloomberg to gather relevant information.
  8. Perform daily electronic reconciliation of accounts to custodial records.
  9. Monitor corporate actions and ensure responses meet deadlines.
  10. Assist with client inquiries, account updates, and maintaining accurate client information.
  11. Support the preparation of client documents, proposals, and account-opening materials.
  12. Help Portfolio Managers prepare for client meetings by organizing required materials.
  13. Create and verify client statements against custodial records and address errors or omissions.
  14. Identify opportunities to improve workflow and system efficiency across operations and trading.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  1. At least three years of experience at an investment management firm or financial institution, serving high-net-worth clients.
  2. University or College degree in Business or Finance; successful completion of the CSC is essential. Experience in Fixed Income is an asset.
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, with knowledge of Bloomberg and portfolio management systems (e.g., Harmony Infinite Systems) preferred.
