Job summary

GFL Environmental invites applications for a Tractor-Trailer Driver in Calgary, AB. As part of Team Green you will operate tractor-trailer units, perform daily safety inspections, and support our recycling and waste operations with reliable service.

You must hold a valid Class 1 CDL with a clean abstract and have at least 2 years’ commercial driving experience, including roll-off experience. We offer competitive pay, comprehensive benefits, RRSP/DPSP, and a modern fleet.

Qualifications

  • Valid Class 1 CDL with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience.
  • Experience with Roll Off bins and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate heavy commercial vehicles and hydraulic systems.
  • Reliable with strong attendance and willingness to work early starts and overtime when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Safe fleet operation: operate tractor-trailer and hydraulic systems.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections and secure loads.
  • Operate hydraulic systems using proper techniques to prevent damage.
  • Report mechanical issues or safety incidents promptly to management.
  • Maintain high productivity, customer service, and vehicle cleanliness.
  • Adhere to traffic laws, safety policies, and PPE requirements.
  • Collaborate with facility staff and supervisors to ensure smooth operations.

Requirements
  • Licensing: Valid Class 1 Commercial Driver’s License with a clean Driver’s Abstract.
  • Driving Experience: Minimum 2 years of commercial driving experience.
  • Previous experience with Roll Off bins
  • Equipment Operation: Demonstrated ability to safely operate heavy commercial vehicles and hydraulic systems.
  • Forklift and Skid Steer and Telehandler experience.
  • Safety Commitment: Ability to successfully satisfy all company standards for safety-sensitive operational roles.
  • Reliability: Strong attendance record and flexibility to support early morning start schedules and operational overtime when needed.
Responsibilities
  • Safe Fleet Operation: Safely operate tractor-trailer truck and on-board hydraulic systems.
  • Safety Inspections: Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections daily and complete required trip logs and paperwork. Make sure each load is secure by checking that tarp is closed properly and that no loose trash is visible.
  • System Operations: Skillfully operate hydraulic systems using proper techniques to prevent equipment damage.
  • Reporting & Maintenance: Promptly report any mechanical write-ups, route hazards, or safety incidents to management.
  • Service Quality: Maintain high productivity, customer service standards, and vehicle cleanliness.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, municipal bylaws, company safety policies, and required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) standards.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with facility personnel and Supervisors to support smooth, efficient daily operations.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other operational duties as assigned by leadership.
  • May be required to work overtime.
