Job summary

The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda Territory is seeking a dedicated individual to support the Store Manager/Corps Officer in organizing and supervising all areas of the thrift store operations. This role helps ensure the mission of The Salvation Army is supported by the thrift store generating funds and positively impacting the communities it serves.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of prior related retail store experience, preferably in secondhand merchandise.
• Basic accounting experience is required.
• Cash handling experience is required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with systems/programs related to The Salvation Army is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Oversee safety of all customers, staff, and volunteers while in the store.
• Assist with planning of store layouts and ensuring attractiveness of store.
• Handle customer concerns or complaints in a timely and courteous manner.
• Support the Store manager/Corps Officer in ensuring all cash operations are carried out according to Salvation Army Policy and Procedures and nightly deposits are secure.
• Oversee control of inventory by ensuring store donations are retrieved, sorted, and priced appropriately.
• Provide direction and support to staff in the absence of Store Manager.
• Participate in interviews and hiring.
• Provide orientation and training, provide feedback for performance management of staff in compliance with Divisional and Territorial standards.
• Assist in planning of store sales, promotions, and auctions.
• Plan staff schedule, staff meetings, and training sessions.
• Sort, price, stock various goods.

Education

Post-secondary program in Retail Management or equivalent
