Job summary

Carewest in Calgary seeks a Therapy Aide to support complex mental health clients with daily living activities and therapeutic programming. Under supervision, you will facilitate group and individual recreational activities, observe and report changes, and contribute to a safe, person-centred environment following trauma-informed care.

You will work within a multidisciplinary team at Bridgeland Riverside Care Centre, helping clients improve independence, social engagement and quality of life

Qualifications

• Graduation from Grade 12 is required.
• Current and active Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider CPR certification is required.
• Personal Care Aide (PCA) certification, certificate in leisure activities or equivalent is preferred.
• Ability to communicate effectively and establish positive therapeutic relationships with clients experiencing mental health and behavioural challenges.
• Knowledge of mental health conditions, addictions, concurrent disorders, cognitive impairment and responsive behaviours is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Assist clients with activities of daily living.
• Facilitate individual and group recreational activities.
• Observe, document and report changes in client behaviour to the Recreation Therapist and care team.
• Support participation in therapeutic programming using person-centred, trauma-informed approaches.
