Job summary

Photon Control Inc., a subsidiary of MKS Instruments, Inc., is seeking a Test Technician to support engineering and shipment testing activities. You will work with Test Engineers to verify and validate tests, prepare setups, document results, and maintain records. You will report to the Test Engineering Supervisor.

The role involves setting up equipment, following tested procedures, and contributing to protocol development while ensuring a safe, organized laboratory environment.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in electrical, mechatronics, or an engineering discipline.
  • 2–4 years in a test technician role in test labs.
  • Proficient with setting up and operating test equipment.
  • Ability to follow detailed test procedures and document results.
  • Strong time management and ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform shipment testing as required and assist tests per plans.
  • Prepare test samples, fixtures, equipment and setups for testing.
  • Conduct routine testing after training, following procedures.
  • Document procedures, conditions, observations and results with traceability.
  • Participate in failure analysis and root cause investigations.
  • Identify abnormal results and escalate issues to Test Engineers.
  • Contribute to development and optimization of testing protocols.
  • Analyze test data to support product improvements.
  • Keep the lab clean, organized and safe.

You will collaborate closely with Test Engineers to conduct verification and validation testing, prepare test setups, support testing protocol development, document results, and maintain accurate test records. You will report to the Test Engineering Supervisor.

You Will Make an Impact By:
  • Perform shipment testing as required, ensuring products meet necessary shipping and handling standards. Assist Test Engineers to conduct tests according to verification and validation plans.
  • Prepare test samples, fixtures, equipment, and test setups to support engineering and shipment testing activities.
  • Perform routine and standardized testing independently after training, following approved test procedures and work instructions.
  • Document test procedures, conditions, observations, and results clearly and accurately, maintaining complete and traceable test records.
  • Participate in failure analysis investigations and root cause analysis, identifying failure modes and supporting corrective actions.
  • Identify abnormal test results or test setup issues, perform basic troubleshooting, and elevate issues to Test Engineers as needed.
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of new and existing testing protocols to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Compile and analyze test data, providing actionable insights to the test engineering team to support product improvements.
  • Ensure the test lab is clean, organized, and well-maintained. Conduct regular cleaning and upkeep of lab equipment and tools to maintain a safe and efficient testing environment.
Skills You Bring:
  • Post-secondary degree in electrical, mechatronics, or an engineering discipline from a related field.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years in a test technician role, with significant experience in test lab environments.
  • High comfort level with setting up and operating test equipment and tools.
  • With strong attention to details, able to follow detailed test procedures accurately and identify issues during testing.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and team skills.
  • Flexible and willing to work in very fast-paced environment where tasks and priorities may change often.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with setting up and using various test equipment (e.g., oscilloscopes, multimeters).
  • Skilled at troubleshooting test setups, equipment failures, and root cause analysis of issues.
  • Strong ability to communicate technical issues and test results clearly to team members and engineers.
  • Background with data analysis using Microsoft Excel or JMP.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and engineering drawings to assist in test setup and execution.
  • Understanding of safety protocols and best practices in a lab or manufacturing environment.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform activities such as sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time.
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include heat, cold, fumes, strong magnets, confined spaces, lasers, microwaves, and vacuum/pressure systems.
  • Flexible and willing to work in very fast-paced environment where tasks and priorities may change often.
  • Excellent time management skills and commitment to meet deadlines.

Compensation:

Salary Pay Range: $50,000 to $60,000 per year. This range is a reasonable expectation of pay for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience, education, training, operational and business needs and other considerations.
