Job description

A Day in Your Life at MKS:

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Photon Control Inc., a subsidiary of MKS Inc., you play a key role in the design, development and delivery of cutting‑edge optical sensor solutions required for advanced semiconductor fabrication. In this role, you will work in the Advanced Development group and report to the Principal Optical Architect.

You Will Make an Impact By:
  • Leading the mechanical design of advanced optical sensor technology platforms and test fixtures.
  • Designing, building, testing, and documenting mechanical designs and test results.
  • Performing thermal and mechanical simulations for the development of new optical sensors and characterization equipment.
  • Working cross‑functionally with other team members to correlate optical characteristics/performance with physical and thermal characteristics to drive understanding and development of next generation temperature and position sensors.
  • Conducting feasibility studies by RSS tolerance analysis and FEA for new products and test fixtures.
  • Applying tools such as FMEA to ensure both manufacturability and reliability post release.
  • Leading projects through the entire process from defining requirements to implementation.
  • Identifying and communicating with component suppliers and internal supply chain to source components.
  • Interacting with a multi‑disciplinary team to innovate novel solutions for products.
  • Using statistical analysis software to analyze data and draw data‑based conclusions.
Skills You Bring:
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics, or other related fields) with at least 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Hands‑on experience in designing, fabricating, and building complex mechanical systems.
  • High competency with all aspects of SolidWorks CAD software as a design and documentation tool.
  • Ability to perform tolerance analysis to verify fitness, and functionality of designs.
  • Experience taking product prototypes from conception to manufacturing.
  • Experience with data analysis and statistics; experience with MATLAB, JMP or Minitab desirable.
  • A desire to learn and grow in a proactive, collaborative multi‑disciplined environment.
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills, with strong attention to details.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with optical systems and/or sensors.
  • Experience with process development of manufacturing complex mechanical systems.
  • Familiarity with control systems is a plus.
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB, or Beckhoff PLC programming is a plus.
  • Experience with thermo‑mechanical simulation using Ansys or SolidWorks is a plus.
  • P. Eng. or eligible for P. Eng.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Perform activities such as sitting, standing, or typing for extended periods of time.
  • Dedication to safety to mitigate hazards that may include heat, cold, fumes, strong magnets, confined spaces, lasers, microwaves, and vacuum/pressure systems.
  • Flexible and willing to work in very fast‑paced environment where tasks and priorities may change often.
  • Excellent time management skills and commitment to meet deadlines.

Compensation:

Salary Pay Range: $90,000 - $125,000 per year. This range is a reasonable expectation of pay for this position, based on a wide range of factors including qualifications, experience, education, training, operational and business needs and other considerations.
