Job summary

NVIT Nicola Valley Institute of Technology in Merritt, BC, invites applications for Term Instructors to teach Indigenous Human Services courses IHMS 110 and IHMS 130 in Fall 2026. Candidates must hold an MSW and have post-secondary teaching experience, preferably with Aboriginal adult learners, and be able to teach in a hybrid model.

Familiarity with Moodle, Teams and Outlook is expected, along with strong teaching and human relations skills to contribute to the school and community.

Qualifications

  • Possess Master of Social Work Degree (MSW).
  • Post-secondary teaching experience ( Aboriginal adult learners preferred ).
  • Knowledge of classroom teaching and learning practices.
  • Excellent teaching and human relations skills – faculty members are expected to contribute positively to the life of the school and community.
  • Willing to teach in a hybrid model. Face to Face in class for students wishing to attend class in person and online synchronist for students not on campus.
  • Familiar with Moodle, Teams and Outlook operating platforms.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses within the Indigenous Human Services Program, including IHMS 110 and IHMS 130.
  • Deliver engaging lectures, supervise assessments, and support student learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance program delivery and community connections.

NVIT anticipates the need for Term Instructors to teach courses within the Indigenous Human Services Program and invites applications from qualified candidates.

The Indigenous Human Service Diploma prepares learners with a career in non-profit agencies, Indigenous communities, and government. Graduates will be able to provide support and assistance to individuals, families and communities coping with economic disadvantage, mental health issues, developmental, gender and diversity issues, as well as challenges such as addictions, family change and involvement with the justice system. Learners who wish to continue their education have the opportunity to ladder into the Social Work Degree Program at NVIT.

Fall 2026
  • IHMS 110 – Fundamentals in Interpersonal Communications
  • IHMS 130 – Intro to Human Service Professional Practice

Applicants should indicate which courses they are qualified for and interested in teaching.
