Job summary

Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo seeks an experienced lecturer to develop, prepare, and deliver lecture, seminar and lab-based instruction in the ITAS program.

You will design and grade assignments, facilitate theory-practice integration, maintain records, and participate in student support and department committees. A Bachelor's degree with four years of recent experience is required; a Master's degree and LMS experience are preferred.

  • Industry experience with technologies related to ITAS courses.
  • Recent teaching or lecturing experience with adults at the post-secondary level.
  • Strong background in current computing and information technologies.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills working as a team member.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Sensitivity to diverse adult learners.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, prepare, and deliver lecture, seminar and lab-based instruction.

Job description

Duties:

Develop, prepare, and deliver lecture, seminar and lab-based instruction to students in the Information Technology & Applied Systems (ITAS) program. Faculty are responsible for preparing and delivering classes, designing and grading student assignments and tests, facilitating the student's integration of theory and practice, and evaluating student progress. Secondary responsibilities include record keeping and general department curriculum maintenance.

Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning, and student success. Successful candidates will participate in activities outside the classroom including student support and department committees.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in related field from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum four years' recent experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered for candidates with exceptional demonstrated experience.

  • Industry experience with technologies related to each course description.
  • Recent teaching or lecturing experience with adults at the post-secondary level.
  • Strong general background in current computing and information technologies.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills working as a team member.
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of a wide variety of adult students.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Information Technology or discipline related to Applied Information Systems from an appropriately accredited institution.
  • Industry certification in the appropriate area.
  • Experience developing course materials and curriculum.
  • Experience with publishing course material to a Learning Management System.
