  • Minimum four years of recent experience in residential construction, housing, or related fields.
  • Experience coordinating with Indigenous communities and industry professionals.
  • Strong instructional and mentoring capabilities for hybrid learning.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous housing, building codes, and facilities management.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and deliver course content using classroom, online and community-based instruction.
  • Facilitate learner engagement through presentations, discussions, and guest speakers.
  • Coordinate with industry professionals and Indigenous community representatives.
  • Support students through coaching, mentoring, evaluation, and feedback.
  • Complete instructional administration including marking, attendance, and reporting.
  • Participate in curriculum refinement and program review.

NVIT anticipates a requirement for a Term Instructor for the Indigenous Construction Standards (ICS) Micro-Credential Program, developed in partnership with the Construction Foundation of British Columbia (CFBC). The successful candidate will deliver two 3-credit courses (90 total instruction hours) using a hybrid-flex delivery model that may include campus-based instruction, online learning and community-based delivery opportunities.

Job Summary/Responsibilities:

  • Preparing and delivering course content using classroom, online and community-based instruction.
  • Facilitate learner engagement through presentations, discussions, case studies, applied activities and guest speakers.
  • Coordinating and work collaboratively with industry professionals, Indigenous community representatives and subject matter experts.
  • Supporting students through coaching, mentoring, evaluation and feedback.
  • Completing instructional and administration from assignment marking, learner evaluation, attendance tracking and reporting requirements.
  • Participate in curriculum refinement, program review and continuous improvement.

The program introduces learners to concepts related to:

  • Indigenous housing and community infrastructure.
  • Residential construction processes and project delivery.
  • Construction quality standards and quality assurance practices.
  • Building code awareness and construction fundamentals.
  • Site safety and risk management.
  • Housing inspections, facilities maintenance and asset management.
  • Construction oversight, communication and reporting.
  • Working with contractors, consultants, leadership and community members.
  • Indigenous perspectives related to housing and construction.

Delivery Expectations

  • Deliver learning using a hybrid-flex model.
  • Facilitate both in-person and virtual learning environments.
  • Travel periodically to Indigenous communities when required.
  • Coordinate and host guest speakers and industry subject matter experts.

Qualifications

  • Poses a combination of education, training, professional certifications and relevant construction, housing, project management and significant industry experience.
  • Minimum four years of recent experience in one or more of the following:
    • Residential construction and management;
    • Building inspection;
    • Indigenous housing;
    • Facilities or asset management;
    • Housing program delivery;
    • Community infrastructure development.
  • Knowledge of construction practices, housing systems, construction quality principles and maintenance planning.
  • Experience facilitating learning, mentoring, coaching, supervision, or instruction
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with Indigenous communities, learners, organizations, and industry partners.
  • Understanding of Canada's colonial history and the devastating impacts on Indigenous peoples and Indigenous ways of being and knowing;
  • Practice from a holistic, culturally safe and trauma-informed lens;
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for Indigenous languages and cultures, and Indigenous lived experiences;
  • Proven ability to build collaborative working relationships to achieve outcomes in the best location of students and NVIT;
  • A demonstrated commitment to quality service to students and the public;
