Vancouver Island University’s Faculty of Education is seeking an experienced education professional to support and guide students as they prepare for careers in teaching. This role plays an important part in the student journey, providing academic and program advising from initial application through program completion while helping students navigate admission, certification and program requirements. Working collaboratively with faculty, staff and external partners, the successful candidate will contribute to a supportive, student-centred environment and to the continued success of VIU’s undergraduate Education program.
Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities, including, student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.
Master's Degree in counselling or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution.
Evidence of knowledge of appropriate teaching methodology in the BC Kindergarten to grade 12 education system. Demonstrated commitment to teaching, learning and student success. Proficiency with the application and integration of information technology. Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills. Willingness and ability to function in a team setting; responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and learning styles. A demonstrated commitment to Truth and Reconciliation through advancing equitable teacher education pathways, supporting Indigenous learners, and preparing future educators to contribute to lasting change in BC’s K-12 education system. Commitment to the development of teacher candidates and knowledge of BC’s current curriculum structure and goals. Eligibility for British Columbia Teaching Certificate or equivalent.
An earned doctorate in a relevant area from an appropriately accredited institution. Familiarity with Teacher Education Programs at Vancouver Island University.
