Job summary

County of Elgin's Terrace Lodge is seeking a Temporary Regular Part-time Recreationist to plan and run activities for residents in a 100-bed long-term care setting. You will coordinate with Medical Director and therapists, liaise with external agencies, and document progress and program outcomes.

The role requires a post-secondary diploma/degree in recreation or related field, ability to manage physical tasks, and 1–3 years in geriatric care. Competitive compensation and benefit options apply.

About the Role

As a Recreationist, you will plan, organize and conduct group and individual programs for the residents, while also following guidelines regarding referrals or instructions signed by the Medical Director and/or professional therapists. Your work may also involve liaising with outside agencies/other recreationists, professional organizations to promote growth of the role. Attention to detail is imperative, as you will be recording and reporting resident progress, establishing program priorities, scheduling, and program evaluations.

Qualifications

• Must have a post-secondary Diploma or Degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university.
• Has the ability to handle physical task demands and have good working knowledge of Peterson-Gunn theory of Activation/Recreation.
• 1 to 3 years experience in a geriatric’s environment or equivalent of qualifications and experience.
