Position

Full-Time Security Guard

Site: London Public Library

  • Site Address: 251 Dundas Street, London, ON N6A 6H9
  • Overtime Method: Employment Standards Act – calculating after 88 hours bi-weekly
  • Hours: Monday – Thursday 13:30 – 21:30
  • Payrate: $18.54/hour
  • Posting Date: September 9, 2025
  • Internal Closing Date: September 16, 2025
  • External Closing Date: October 7, 2025
Assignments
  • Opening and closing the facility, patrolling interior and exterior spaces and controlling access/egress, providing security escorts, as required
  • Operating, accessing, and occasionally monitoring the video surveillance equipment
  • Monitoring and responding to alarm systems
  • Maintain a high standard of civility, deportment and appearance; apply a philosophy of compassion and de-escalation
  • Support staff, volunteers, tenants and Library patrons by knowing and applying the Library's Rules of Conduct in a fair, dignified manner
  • Resolve incidents according to the Library's guidelines and report incidents as established
  • Protect all persons and property in emergencies (medical, fire, disaster, severe weather, bomb threat, evacuation, etc.)
  • Function as the Primary First Aid service provider at the Central Library; may include administration of blocking medications (e.g., Naloxone) and use of AED
  • Report all emergencies to the Library as soon as possible; provide written incident reports via the Library's Incident Reporting Tool

Prerequisites
  • Valid Security License for the province of Ontario
  • Valid First Aid & CPR Level C from a WSIB approved provider
  • English (oral and written) fluency
  • 3 years of experience in security
  • Certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
  • Applicants may opt into Paladin's UOF/MOAB training prior to onboarding if not already certified
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
Certification Requirements (All)
  • Valid Ontario Security License
  • Standard First Aid, CPR Level C
