Job summary

The Corporation of the Town of Whitby is seeking a Facility Attendant to maintain, clean and repair Town facilities and to support event setups and rentals. You will monitor cleaning equipment, manage inventory, and coordinate room arrangements for groups while responding to public inquiries and assisting staff with routine tasks.

Ideal candidates have Grade 12, basic Building Operation and Maintenance training, and at least 12 months of related experience.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education is required.
  • Post-secondary courses in Building Operation and Maintenance are preferred.
  • 12 months of related experience in building maintenance and cleaning.

Responsibilities

  • General maintenance, cleaning and repairs of assigned Town facilities.
  • Maintain cleaning equipment and inventory; ensure rooms and areas are set up correctly.
  • Assist rental/permits groups with their needs and execute special requests.
  • Respond to public and staff inquiries; provide training to junior staff; order supplies.
  • Perform building checks and travel to other locations if required.

Reporting to the Supervisor of Facilities (Community Centres) the Facility Attendant is responsible for: the general maintenance, cleaning and repairs of the assigned Town of Whitby facilities maintaining all cleaning equipment and monitoring cleaning product inventory; consulting with staff to ensure meeting rooms and areas are set up appropriately; assisting rental/permits groups with their needs, i.e. type of set-ups, number of guests, times, arrival times and accurate execution of permitted and special requests; responding to public and staff inquiries; providing training leadership and direction to junior employees including job specific training, guidance and division of responsibilities; ordering supplies; performing building checks and acting on deficiencies; completing administrative requirements as required; may be required to travel to other locations during shift. other duties as may be required.

What You Bring To Our Team

As the successful applicant, you must possess: minimum of Grade 12 education; post-secondary course(s) in Building Operation and Maintenance; possess at least twelve (12) months of related experience in building maintenance and cleaning, building and equipment repair, customer service and facility supervision and operational responsibility; maintain, in good standing, a valid Class "G" Driver's Licence, Working At Heights or Lift Specific Certification current certification in CPR/AED (Level C) and Emergency First Aid; a valid, satisfactory police criminal record check to work with the vulnerable sector.

What We Offer You

A comprehensive benefits and pension program to ensure that your total compensation package addresses both your work and life needs. Salary Range/Hourly rate: $31.32 - $39.16. Hybrid information: Frontline Hours: Flex hours, including days, afternoons, and nights, forty (40) hours per week. Shifts may be scheduled between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m., Sunday to Saturday. Closing Date: October 5, 2026.
