Job summary

The Town of Whitby is hiring a Parks Maintainer to perform repair and renovation work in the General Maintenance group, including playgrounds and park facilities. You will install equipment, conduct seasonal tasks, and ensure safety and quality in all duties.

Candidates should have a secondary school diploma, trade-related experience, and a valid DZ license. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement and benefits through the Town of Whitby.

Qualifications

  • Registered Playground Practitioner Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform renovation and repair duties in the General Maintenance group for park facilities/structures.
  • Install playground equipment and report playground conditions.
  • Conduct seasonal tasks such as event set-ups and snow/ice removal.
  • Operate tools safely and provide excellent customer service to the public and staff.

The Parks Maintainer is responsible for:performing renovation and repair duties within the General Maintenance workgroup, on various park facilities/structures, including, but not limited to, field houses, playground equipment and other park amenities;completing required maintenance by utilizing carpentry, plumbing or welding skills, and/or concrete work, dependent upon the required repair;installation of play equipment, and reporting back on the status playground conditions;performing seasonal tasks such as special event set ups and/or snow and ice removal;conducting minor equipment maintenance and checks;ensuring all equipment and/or tools are operated in a safe and professional manner;providing excellent customer service, including responding to inquiries/concerns from the general public and/or ,staff; andother duties as required and assigned.Who You AreOur Public Works team is looking for a self-motivated, solutions-oriented team member. You perform work in a safe manner and encourage and support others to do the same.What You Bring To Our TeamAs the successful applicant, you must possess:a secondary school graduation diploma;completion of applicable trade school programs and/or extensive experience in carpentry, welding and/or construction;Registered Playground Practitioner Certification;a minimum of three (3) years directly related experience with general parks maintenance;a valid Class “DZ” Driver’s License, maintained in good standing;a minimum of one (1) year demonstrated experience operating vehicles over 11,000 k.g., G.V.W., including tandem axle trucks;a successful completion of Defensive Driving training;Current Certification in Standard First Aid & CPR 'C' and AED;the ability to operate various tools and equipment in a technical and safe manner; andphysically fit and capable of performing strenuous physical labour with heavy lifting up to 50 lbs. in varying weather conditions.What We Offer YouA comprehensive benefits and pension program to ensure that your total compensation package addresses both your work and life needs.Salary Range/Hourly rate:$33.74 - $42.20Hybrid information:Mobile FrontlineHours:This position may work flex hours, including days, afternoons, and nights, forty (40) hours per week. Between December-March shifts may be scheduled between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m., Sunday to Saturday.
