Job summary

Bluewater District School Board seeks a Temporary Custodian (19 hours per week) to maintain facilities including portable classrooms. The afternoon shift starts at 3:30 p.m. The assignment may end earlier if the incumbent returns.

Reports to Head Custodian/Assistant Head Custodian/School Principal/Supervisor, Plant Operations. Candidates must have a Well Water Training Certificate or be willing to complete training if requested. Equity and accommodations are provided.

Qualifications

• Secondary school diploma or equivalent required.
• Access to technology and the Internet.
• Must be capable of performing a variety of repetitive, physical work (lifting, bending, pushing, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Abide by all Custodial Plant practices and procedures and board policies.
• Complete all assigned tasks.
• Notify Head Custodian/Assistant Head Custodian of repairs beyond your qualifications.
• Perform equipment checks and minor maintenance.
• Notify HC/AHC of security breaches or failures.
• Draw from stock materials as needed to meet duties.
• Receive deliveries of supplies and equipment.
• Work with community education partners to support events.
• Perform other custodial duties as assigned.

Position: Temporary Custodian (19 hours per week)

Position includes portable classrooms.

Schedule: Afternoon Shift (3:30 p.m. start)

Assignment may end earlier than anticipated if incumbent returns earlier than expected.

Note: CUPE members must abide by all articles in the CUPE Local 1176 Collective Agreement.

Well water location: Applicant should possess a Well Water Training Certificate, or be willing to successfully complete the training course, if requested.

Duties and Responsibilities

• To abide by all Custodial related Plant practices and procedures, as well as follow all Board policies and procedures for Board Employees.


• To complete all assigned tasks.


• To be responsible for notifying the Head Custodian (HC) and/or Assistant Head Custodian (AHC) of repairs required to the building and equipment which are beyond your qualifications.


• To be responsible for equipment checks, minor maintenance and repairs.


• To be responsible for notifying the AHC, and/or HC of security breaches, mechanical or electrical failure or any other unusual circumstances.


• To draw from stock materials needed in meeting duties.


• To receive delivery of supplies and equipment.


• To work closely with our community education partners to help ensure the smooth operation of their events.


• To perform any other custodial duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

• Secondary schooldiplomaorequivalent


• Access to technology and the Internet


• Must becapableofperforming a variety of repetitive,physicalwork(i.e., lifting, bending, pushing, pulling etc.)

Assets

• Previousexperience incommercial/industrial cleaning


• Comfort with basic facility/grounds maintenance


• Ability to work well as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision


• Basic computer skills (i.e., communicating via e-mail, accessing information and training)


• Effective communication skills


• Reliable transportation to and from worksites
