Job summary

Bluewater District School Board is seeking a Temporary Custodian (30 hours per week) to support cleaning and maintenance across its schools, including portable classrooms. The Afternoon Shift (3:30 p.m.

start) reports to the Head Custodian, Assistant Head Custodian, School Principal or Supervisor, Plant Operations. Candidates should have a secondary school diploma or equivalent, access to technology and the Internet, and the physical ability to perform repetitive tasks.

Qualifications

• Must be capable of performing a variety of repetitive, physical work.

Responsibilities

• To abide by all Custodial Plant practices and procedures, and follow Board policies for Board Employees.
• To complete all assigned tasks.
• To notify the Head Custodian and/or Assistant Head Custodian of repairs beyond your qualifications.
• To be responsible for equipment checks, minor maintenance and repairs.
• To notify the AHC/HC of security breaches, mechanical or electrical failures or any unusual circumstances.
• To draw from stock materials needed to meet duties.
• To receive delivery of supplies and equipment.
• To work closely with community education partners to ensure smooth operation of events.
• To perform any other custodial duties as assigned.

Schedule: Afternoon Shift (3:30 p.m. start)

Assignment may end earlier than anticipated if incumbent returns earlier than expected.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Qualifications and Experience:

• Secondary schooldiplomaorequivalent
• Access to technology and the Internet
• Must becapableofperforming a variety of repetitive,physicalwork(i.e., lifting, bending, pushing, pulling etc.)

Assets:

• Previousexperience incommercial/industrial cleaning
• Comfort with basic facility/grounds maintenance
• Ability to work well as part of a team and independently with minimal supervision
• Basic computer skills (i.e., communicating via e-mail, accessing information and training)
• Effective communication skills
• Reliable transportation to and from worksites
