Job summary

Rocky View Schools (RVS) is hiring a Building Operator I Floater to service all division areas with a 40-hour work week. The role is temporary and based on division needs, with morning or afternoon shifts and immediate start through June 30, 2027.

The position focuses heavily on cleaning duties (about 90%), with responsibilities including reporting property defects and supporting site operations. Alberta licensing and relevant operator tickets are required or assets.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1-3 years’ supervisory experience in a caretaking setting.
• 3-5 years caretaking/cleaning experience.
• Valid Alberta operator’s license (class 5).
• Valid Building Operator A or B Ticket or 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate is an asset.
• Cleaning organization certifications are an asset.
• Previous school division experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Active janitorial duties; cleaning of school and grounds (about 90% of duties).
• Report defects, damages, or loss of property to Head Building Operator.
• Coordinate cleaning duties of caretakers as needed.
• Maintain appropriate temperatures in school during shift.
• Check heating/plumbing/electrical systems; report problems promptly.
• Perform security duties as assigned.
• Assist HBO in orientation and training of new staff.

The Opportunity

RVS invites applications for atemporary, full-time (40 hrs/wk)Building Operator I Floater Position(s) to service all areas (based on the needs of the division -morningsor afternoons must be flexible); starting immediately and ending June 30, 2027.

Responsibilities Include

• Engages actively in janitorial duties, including cleaning of the school and the grounds(90% of this position is cleaning)
• Reports any defects, damages, or loss of school property to the Head Building Operator
• May coordinatecleaning duties of caretakers
• Ensures temperatures in the school building are maintained during theshift
• Checks on the proper operation of heating, plumbing, and electrical systems; reports any problems promptly to the Head Building Operator
• Security duties as assigned
• Assists the HBO in orientation and training of new employees and relief help

Education/Experience

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 1-3 years’ previous experience in a supervisory role, preferably in a Caretaking setting
• 3-5years previous caretaking/cleaning experience
• Valid Alberta operator’s license (class 5)
• Valid Building Operator A or B Ticket or a 5th Class Power Engineering Certificate is considered an asset
• Certifications from cleaning organization is considered an asset
• Previous experience within a school division is considered an asset

Knowledge/Skills

• Working knowledge of proper cleaning procedures
• Ability to successfully work in a team environment as well as independently with minimalsupervision
• Effective supervisory skills, including training, and delegating
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient on Microsoft Office Suite and web-based applications
