Job summary

City of Timmins is seeking a Temporary Skilled Labourer for Arena Maintenance in the Facilities & Recreation Department. The role involves janitorial tasks, snow shoveling, ice resurfacing, and basic repairs across electrical, plumbing, mechanical and carpentry trades. Certification assets and a valid G license are preferred.

Interviews slated for late October 2026 with pre-employment checks. Starting wage is $30.10/hour with progression to $31.62/hour after 1,800 hours and training, under CUPE

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education required.
• Valid Ontario Driver’s License, Class G.
• Experience with hand and electrical tools.
• Electrical, plumbing, mechanical and carpentry repairs.
• Operation of commercial riding lawn mowers and zero-turn mowers.
• Safe operation of ½ ton and ¾ ton trucks with a trailer.
• Ability to perform shift work as necessary.
• Ability to communicate effectively with the public.
• Knowledge of Ice Resurfacer operation.
• ORFA Refrigeration related certificates are assets.
• Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen required.

Responsibilities

• Perform janitorial cleaning duties and washroom maintenance.
• Shovel snow and maintain ice surface and entrances.
• Operate ice resurfacer and edger to maintain ice quality.
• Install and maintain ice surface logos and lines.
• Monitor refrigeration readings and adjust as needed.
• Perform basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry and mechanical repairs.
• Assist with crowd control and arena users for order.
• Report and clean up vandalism.
• Set up and dismantle equipment for events.
• Maintain grass, flower beds, fields and clean surroundings.
• Perform other related duties as required.
