Job summary

Gexel Telecom International Inc. is seeking a Telecommunications Technician to install, test, and commission telecom equipment at various sites across the Maritimes. The role requires travel to job sites and collaboration with colleagues to complete tasks.

You will work on equipment shelters, tower tops, and network components, perform RF tests, verify signal integrity, and document results. Valid driver’s license and safety certifications are required, with physical readiness for outdoor work.

Qualifications

• General Health and Safety on Construction Sites certification (ASP-Construction) is required.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Install equipment in shelters (equipment shelter).
• Install and connect radio units, BBUs, routers and transmission equipment.
• Install 48V electrical cabling, coaxial and fiber optic cables.
• Install and maintain power systems (rectifiers, batteries, grounding).
• Perform RF testing at tower tops and verify signal levels and continuity.
• Identify and correct anomalies before site commissioning.
• Diagnose and repair cellular equipment failures and respond to alarms.
• Document interventions and test results.

Job Description

The Telecommunications Technician position requires traveling to job sites to install, test, and commission telecommunications equipment. The technician will work in collaboration with employees from other divisions within the group to complete assigned tasks.

Work Schedule

Must be available Monday to Friday (possibility of 10 consecutive days) to perform work

Work Location

Travel to job sites in the Maritimes.

Main Responsibilities

Equipment Installation (Equipment Shelter)

• Install and connect active and passive equipment inside the equipment shelter (cabinets, racks, bays).


• Install and connect radio units, BBUs, routers, and transmission equipment.


• Install 48V electrical cabling, coaxial cables, and fiber optic cables.


• Install power systems (rectifiers, batteries, grounding).


• Follow engineering plans, electrical diagrams, and operator standards.

Testing and Commissioning at Tower Top

• Perform RF testing directly at the top of the tower.


• Verify signal levels, VSWR, and cable continuity.


• Validate antenna and radio equipment performance.


• Identify and correct anomalies before site commissioning.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

• Diagnose and repair cellular equipment failures.


• Respond to network alarms and incidents.


• Perform preventive and corrective site maintenance.


• Document interventions and test results.
