Job description

Job Opportunity: Field Technician

Cyient has an immediate opening for a Field Technician in our Telecommunications Business Unit. The ideal candidate will be responsible for Outside Plant (OSP) field data collection. You will visit multiple job locations daily, recording and analyzing existing field conditions related to Telecom poles, aerial/underground structures, and street/right of way measurements for future/current fiber designs and equipment locations.

With support, you will perform field surveys (ISP/OSP), taking detailed notes, photos, and sketches of on-site findings. You will assist Design Specialists by providing detailed feedback on potential cable paths and site surveys. Additionally, you will conduct utility and right of way research, read and interpret utility plans, DOT records, property/easement data, civil design blueprints, survey documents, or sketches, and compare information from GIS maps/drawings with data from sources like Google Earth and field measurements. You will report directly to the Engineering Manager in Toronto, Ontario.

You must be able to travel up to 95% of the time, often for extended periods. Food and lodging will be paid by the company, and mileage reimbursement will be provided when using a personal vehicle.

Responsibilities:

1. Travel to multiple job locations daily to review proposed fiber facilities and telecom infrastructure, ensuring field accuracy and proposing adjustments as needed.
2. Take field measurements and photos of utility poles, equipment, cables, proposed equipment cabinets/boxes, and street dimensions.
3. Collaborate with the permit team to review and submit encroachment permits to various authorities, including state and municipal agencies, DOT, railroads, and pipelines.
4. Work outdoors daily in various weather conditions.

Qualifications:

• At least 1+ years of experience with utility construction in an outside plant environment (preferred).
• Experience with telecom/utility poles and field surveys (preferred).
• Experience with existing and proposed telecom equipment locations (1+ years).
• Ability to read and analyze utility work prints (preferred).
• Experience with aerial, underground, or buried telecom infrastructure (preferred).
• Experience handling IKE GPS or related pole survey equipment (preferred).
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Skills & Experience:

• Excellent communication skills for interacting with utility, governmental agencies, consultants, and engineering firms.
