The Island Medical Program (IMP), based at the University of Victoria (UVic), is part of the University of British Columbia (UBC) Faculty of Medicine (FoM) MD Undergraduate Program (MDUP) and is one of 4 distributed sites situated across the province. The remaining provincial sites are: the Northern Medical Program (NMP), Vancouver Fraser Medical Program (VFMP) and the Southern Medical Program (SMP). The mandate of the IMP is to deliver the UBC MDUP, with an emphasis on training students in community and rural settings across Vancouver Island. IMP training sites are located across the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Kwakwaka’wakw, Nuu-chah-nulth, and Coast Salish peoples. The use of audio-visual and videoconferencing technology is integral to the local and provincial delivery of lectures and labs across the distributed programs.
Mandate
The Technology Support Analyst supports the technology that enables the effective distribution of UBC medical and health professional programs across BC.
Objectives
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations and problem solving for the audio/visual (AV) and videoconferencing (VC) resources, along with the future development/redesign of instructional facilities.
- Provides support to the faculty, staff, and students in our UBC medical and health professional programs to support their use of AV/VC facilities for teaching, administration, and research.
- Participates in project management regarding the development of technology, and the associated processes/policies in rolling out and maintaining said technologies at a local and provincial level.
- Sets and carries out objectives to meet organizational needs, monitors and provides feedback to individual and team performance against defined standards. This position is accountable to the local IMP and inter-site technical teams.
This position reports to the Manager, Strategy and Administration, and receives operational direction from the UBC Digital Solutions, Team Lead, Collaborations. The work site for this position covers the following locations: UVic Campus (Medical Sciences Building), VITP (Vancouver Island Tech Park), RJH Coronation Annex (Royal Jubilee Hospital), and VGH (Victoria General Hospital). Job responsibilities will be carried out in more than one location, and regular travel between locations is required. This position may be required to work some evenings or weekends. Must hold a valid BC Driver’s License, periodic travel to Vancouver and to educational spaces up Island is also required.
The live broadcast environment can be demanding and stressful and the incumbent must be able to remain calm under pressure and re-prioritize tasks on an ad-hoc basis. Viewing of the Island Medical Program curriculum may cause some discomfort for those uninitiated to medical education.
This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum of two years of experience. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

- Formal training in audio-visual service, plus industry training and credentials such as Cisco, Crestron, Q-Sys, Biamp, and CTS Certification is considered an asset.
- Valid BC Driver’s License.
