About Changepain

Changepain is a multidisciplinary pain clinic in Burnaby, BC with approximately 75 staff members providing comprehensive chronic pain management services. We combine medical expertise with allied health services in a collaborative healthcare environment. Our IT and Operations team is focused on building automation solutions and streamlining workflows to improve both staff efficiency and patient experience.

Position Overview

We're looking for a technically curious co-op student who wants hands-on experience building real automation solutions in a healthcare environment. You'll be working on projects that reduce manual work, improve patient communication, and solve operational bottlenecks. You'll work directly with our IT, Operations & QA Team to tackle workflow challenges using AI, automation tools, and creative problem-solving.

What You'll Work On

Email Automation & Workflow Optimization

  • Build and refine AI-powered email categorization systems using Power Automate and Microsoft 365 tools

  • Currently staff spend 2-3 hours daily sorting emails manually—you'll help automate routing for bookings, cancellations, prescription requests, and general inquiries

  • Create rules, filters, and smart routing logic to get the right emails to the right people automatically

Patient Communication Automation

  • Help design and test AI phone automation solutions for appointment booking and patient inquiries

  • Improve our existing appointment confirmation workflow (built in Power Automate) and patient communication tracking systems

  • Research and evaluate new AI tools to optimize our patient experience.

IT Operations & Infrastructure

  • Assist with Microsoft 365 administration tasks (user management, Teams configuration, SharePoint setup)

  • Help maintain our internal IT ticketing system and documentation in Microsoft Teams

  • Support IT infrastructure projects including storage management and general troubleshooting

  • Assist with hardware deployment, system updates, and general IT support as needed

Process Improvement & Data Analysis

  • Identify workflow bottlenecks and propose automation opportunities

  • Build tracking systems and analytical dashboards to monitor operational metrics

  • Document processes, create SOPs, and help standardize workflows across the clinic

Marketing & Digital Content

  • Create and schedule short-form content for social media (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook) including graphics, copy, patient stories, and health education posts

  • Design and deploy email marketing campaigns for patient education, service announcements, etc.

  • Track marketing performance metrics across all channels, participate in strategic brainstorming sessions, and research healthcare marketing trends to support clinic growth

Special Projects

  • Explore integrations between our EMR system and other tools. Understanding what's possible and what workarounds are needed

  • Test and implement AI tools such as custom automation bots for specific use cases

What You'll Learn

  • How to build practical automation solutions that save real time and reduce manual work

  • Working with healthcare IT systems including EMRs, patient communication platforms, and privacy regulations (PIPA)

  • Microsoft 365 administration and Power Automate workflow development

  • How AI tools can be applied to solve operational challenges in healthcare environments

  • Project management, documentation, and translating technical solutions for non-technical stakeholders

  • How to evaluate and implement third-party tools and platforms in a regulated healthcare setting

Must-Haves

What We're Looking For

  • Enrolled in a co-op program at a BC post-secondary institution

  • Studying Information Technology, Business Technology, or a related field

  • Comfortable with Windows environments and Microsoft 365 tools

  • Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to figure things out independently

  • Good communication skills. Able to understand and explain technical concepts to non-technical staff

Preferred Experience

  • Experience with Power Automate, Power BI, etc.

  • Familiarity with AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot

  • Interest in healthcare technology or previous healthcare experience
