The University of Alberta is seeking a part-time Technology Coach to support the Faculty of Education at North Campus Edmonton. This in-person role requires current student status and a passion for teaching and technology, with on-job training provided.

You will greet visitors, triage requests, connect clients with resources, and assist with making room bookings. Availability during daytime hours and strong customer service are essential.

Qualifications

This competition is restricted to currently enrolled students of the University of Alberta. This position has an end date of March 31, 2027.

Location

This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton.

We’re looking for someone who loves teaching, learning new technology skills, and helping others learn. On-job training for all technology will be provided.

Reporting to the Learning Consultant, the Technology Coach works closely with Faculty of Education staff, students, and instructors. The P/T position allows the successful applicant to demonstrate their knowledge and passion for educational technology. The Technology Coach will cultivate positive experiences for all guests as they learn and get support.

The ideal candidate will have exceptional customer service skills and office experience is a plus. They will need to demonstrate flexibility, organizational skills, problem-solving, communication skills, and the ability to prioritize.

TechinEd provides an ideal learning environment for students, staff, instructors, and faculty in the Faculty of Education to develop their critical digital literacies in the areas of teaching, learning, research and administration. This position starts October 19, and the candidate MUST be available for at least three hour shifts during the day (9:00 am - 3:00 pm), with the possibility of rare afternoon/evening work, for a minimum of 3 hr/week to a maximum of 37.5 hr/week. Most tech coaches will work 3-8 hours per week.

Preference will be given to strong candidates with availability from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm for at least two three-hour shifts Monday - Friday.

Applicants MUST attach their availability for the Fall and Winter semesters.

Applicants MUST be current students enrolled at the University of Alberta, and undergraduate Education students are strongly preferred.

Education students MUST NOT be enrolled for their AFX during the Fall or Winter school semesters.

• Support students with a wide variety of technology


• Provide tutoring and/or training on the use of the TechinEd technologies


• Provide video/audio recording and editing services as requested


• Provide support for online classes via Zoom


• Deliver presentations for students, staff, and faculty


• Work with faculty and staff on developing and supporting projects like digital storytelling screencasting and podcasting basic video editing developing/maintaining various websites (Google Sites, WordPress, Wix) maintaining a mini Maker space


• Maintain accurate records and logs interactions


• Develop learning resources as requested, such as tutorials and tip sheets


• Test and learn new technologies as they become available


• Participants on project teams as required; project work may include supporting eClass development, course delivery, faculty websites and research projects

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma, current U of A Student


• Basic familiarity with Mac and Windows operating systems, printing, scanning, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

• Faculty of Education undergraduate students preferred


• 1-2 years teaching or informal teaching experience is preferred

• Artificial Intelligence (particularly GenAi in an educational setting)


• MS Office suite


• SMARTBoard technology (an asset, but not required)


• Audio, photo, and video recording and editing (an asset, but not required)


• Web 2.0 tools
