Job summary

Cambrian College in Greater Sudbury seeks a Millwright technologist on a 4-month leave replacement, with possible extension, starting September 2026.

You will plan, organize and maintain millwright and machine lab facilities, provide technical expertise to faculty and students, and help design equipment to support hands-on learning. Strong safety focus and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

  • Certificate of Qualification as 433A Industrial Mechanic Millwright or 429A journeyperson is required.
  • Three years of experience after completion of apprenticeship.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • High initiative, flexibility, and creative problem solving; ability to work in a team.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize and maintain millwright and machine lab facilities including repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Provide technical expertise to faculty and students and assist in labs.
  • Design and develop equipment, systems and materials to meet learning needs.
  • Evaluate equipment and resources and advise on purchase or repair decisions.
  • Control inventory and monitor department budget with the coordinator.
  • Promote workplace safety and serve as a role model in the classroom.

Job description

Cambrian College's Schools of Skills Training requires a 4-month Millwright technologist (with possibility of extension), on a leave replacement basis, beginning September 2026.

  • Plan, organize, and maintain millwright and machine lab facilities including repairs, preventive maintenance.
  • Provide technical expertise of a specialized nature to faculty and students and determine the best services and methods required to meet user needs, and provide assistance and direction to students while in the lab.
  • Design and develop equipment, systems, materials, etc., to meet students' learning requirements.
  • Evaluate equipment and other resources and make recommendations whether to purchase or repair.
  • Control supply inventory and monitor budget in conjunction with the department coordinator.
  • Promote and uphold a workplace safety standard and be an effective role model within the classroom.
Required
  • Certificate of Qualification as a 433A Industrial Mechanic Millwright or 429A General Machinist journeyperson. (A copy of educational documents must be submitted with application *** education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES or ICAS with their application).
  • Three years of experience after completion of apprenticeship training.
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to work with clients.
  • High degree of initiative, work-related flexibility, and creative problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to advise and positively interact with students is important, as is the ability to work within a team environment.
Assets/Preferred
  • Postsecondary diploma in Millwright or General Machinist
  • Experience working within a postsecondary environment.
  • Teaching or hands-on training experience.
