Job summary

Desjardins Group in Montreal, QC seeks a legal affairs technician for a 14‑month temporary position. The role provides technical support to protect the organization’s legal interests, assists with the Office of the Corporate Secretary, and supports legal staff on initiatives and processes.

The ideal candidate has a general college diploma in a related field, a minimum of three years of relevant experience, and French language proficiency with strong English skills for partner interactions.

  • Carry out specialized technical studies, research and analysis on legal topics.

  • Assist legal staff with initiatives and help plan and coordinate legal activities.
  • Prepare and draft reports, documents, summaries and technical notes.
  • Follow up with practitioners and decision-making bodies as required.
  • Forward files in accordance with the established process.
  • Help practitioners follow unit standards and use its tools and systems.

Job description

Temporary position for 14 months. As a legal affairs technician, you help protect the organization's legal interests by providing technical support to make sure that its rights are protected and obligations are met. You may be responsible for one or more sub-specialties, such as contested matters and the Office of the Corporate Secretary (ethics and professional conduct, official registries, meeting minutes, the general meeting, etc.). You serve as technical expert and provide discipline-specific support for your unit's activities, initiatives and processes. The ability to tailor your approach as needed is therefore essential. You research and analyze processes, information management and data processing. You draw on your sound decision-making skills to solve technically complex problems and recommend ways to change or adjust methods and procedures to make them as effective and efficient as possible.

More specifically, you will be required to:

  • Carry out specialized technical studies, research and analysis on legal topics.
