Job summary

Deciem Inc is seeking a Technical Writer, Engineering to develop, coordinate, and maintain technical documentation for capital projects, equipment qualification, validation, and technology transfer. The role ensures accuracy, compliance, and audit readiness in line with cGMP and regulatory standards.

Based at our Production Facility in Etobicoke, this full-time on-site role collaborates with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and R&D to drive documentation standards and continuous improvements.

Qualifications

  • College Diploma, bachelor’s degree or equivalent education in a technical, scientific, or related discipline.
  • 1 - 3 years of technical writing experience in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Experience preparing manufacturing documentation in compliance with cGMP, Health Canada, FDA, ISO.
  • Strong technical writing, editing, and document management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project coordination skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and maintain technical documentation supporting Engineering, Validation, and Technology Transfer activities.
  • Ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with DECIEM procedures, cGMP and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate document deliverables across project lifecycle with Reviews and Approvals.
  • Track documentation status and communicate risks affecting timelines or compliance.
  • Support revisions from engineering changes, deviations, CAPAs, and change controls.
  • Partner with multiple departments to support capital projects and new product introductions.
  • Support audits by ensuring documentation is complete and inspection ready.
  • Provide guidance on documentation standards and templates to promote consistency.
  • Maintain documentation trackers to monitor status and on-time deliverables.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

The Technical Writer, Engineering supports the Engineering and Validation & Technology Transfer teams by developing, coordinating, and maintaining technical documentation required for capital projects, equipment qualification, validation, and technology transfer activities. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Validation & Technology Transfer, this role ensures documentation is accurate, compliant, audit-ready, and completed in accordance with DECIEM procedures, cGMP requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.

Working closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, R&D, Validation, Technology Transfer, Finance, and other cross-functional teams, this role coordinates document preparation, approval workflows, and document control activities while driving continuous improvements in documentation processes and standards.

This is a full-time and permanent position based out of our Production Facility in Etobicoke. This position requires candidates to work 5-days a week on-site.

PAY RANGE

The anticipated hourly range for this position is $55,000 to $60,000.

Exact hourly rate depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. Hourly range may vary based on geographic location.

WHAT YOU’D BE DOING IN THIS ROLE
  • Develop, review, and maintain technical documentation supporting Engineering, Validation, and Technology Transfer activities, including User Requirement Specifications (URSs), validation protocols, IQ/OQ/PQ documentation, PPQs, Compounding Batch Records (CBRs), SOPs, and technical reports.
  • Ensure technical documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with DECIEM procedures, cGMP requirements and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with technical subject matter experts to translate engineering, validation, and manufacturing information into clear, standardized, and compliant documentation.
  • Coordinate documentation deliverables throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring timely reviews, approvals, and signatures across Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing other stakeholders.
  • Track documentation status, identify potential delays, and communicate risks that could impact project timelines or regulatory compliance.
  • Support document revisions resulting from engineering changes, validation activities, process improvements, deviations, CAPAs, and change controls.
  • Partner with Engineering, Validation, Technology Transfer, Manufacturing, Quality, R&D, and Document Control to support capital projects, new product introductions, and validation activities.
  • Support internal and external audits by ensuring documentation is complete, organized, and inspection ready.
  • Provide guidance on documentation standards, templates, and best practices to promote consistency across Engineering, Validation, and Technology Transfer activities.
  • Maintain documentation trackers and monitor project documentation status to ensure deliverables are completed on schedule.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED TO GET THE JOB DONE
  • College Diploma, bachelor’s degree or equivalent education in a technical, scientific, or related discipline. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience will be considered.
  • 1 - 3 years of technical writing experience supporting Engineering, Validation, Manufacturing, or Quality functions in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing manufacturing documentation in compliance with cGMP, Health Canada, FDA, ISO, and DECIEM expectations.
  • Strong technical writing, editing, proofreading, and document management skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
