Job summary

NES Fircroft seeks a Technical Training Specialist (Contract) in Grande Prairie to design and oversee training programs for gas plant operators. The role requires hands-on experience in gas processing and developing training across facilities in the Grande Prairie region.

The candidate will coordinate with department heads, deliver sessions for new hires and ongoing staff, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of, and operational experience in, natural gas processing is required.
  • Three+ years as Training Coordinator or similar in oil & gas.
  • Experience developing and delivering training programs for industrial/technical operations.

Technical Training Specialist (Contract)

Please note the successful candidate is required to live in Grande Prairie.

Position Summary

The Technical Training Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing training programs for all employees at my client's gas plant facilities. This includes ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, enhancing employee skills, and promoting a safe and efficient working environment.

The ideal candidate will have direct work experience as a Plant Operator in a complex gas plant facility and will be able to use that technical knowledge to develop and implement training programs for all plant operators across my client's gas plant facilities in the Grande Prairie region. An operational background in natural gas processing is required.

Please note that this is a contract position.

Key Accountabilities
  • Design, develop, and update training materials and programs to meet the needs of gas plant operations.
  • Ensure training programs comply with all industry regulations and my client's policies.
  • Incorporate new technologies and methodologies into training programs.
  • Conduct training sessions for new hires, ongoing training for current employees, and refresher courses.
  • Utilize a variety of training methods, including hands-on, classroom, and online training.
  • Coordinate with external training providers as necessary.
  • Maintain accurate training records and ensure all employees are compliant with mandatory training requirements.
  • Prepare reports on training activities and compliance for management review.
  • Ensure training certifications and qualifications are up to date.
  • Assess the effectiveness of training programs and make necessary adjustments.
  • Conduct evaluations and feedback sessions with employees to ensure understanding and retention of training material.
  • Monitor and report on employee performance improvements following training.
  • Work closely with department heads to identify training needs and gaps.
  • Communicate regularly with plant management to align training programs with operational goals.
  • Facilitate effective communication between trainers, trainees, and management.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, advancements, and best practices in training and development.
  • Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the effectiveness of the training program.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities.
Working Conditions
  • Combination of office and gas plant (field) environments.
  • Requires regular/daily travel to gas plant facilities in the Grande Prairie region. Some locations are remote and require travel on radio-controlled roads.
  • Must adhere to safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
  • The work schedule is Monday to Thursday (or Tuesday to Friday), 10 hours per day.
  • The successful candidate will be based in the Grande Prairie area.
Education and Experience
Education
  • Certification in Power Engineering is preferred but not required (4th Class Power Engineering or higher).
  • Post-secondary diploma or certificate in Education, Training, or a related field is considered an asset but is not required.
  • Certification in Training and Development (e.g., CTP, CPLP) is considered an asset but is not required.
Experience
  • Strong knowledge of, and operational experience in, natural gas processing is required.
  • Three or more years of experience in a Training Coordinator or similar role within the oil and gas industry.
  • Experience developing and delivering training programs for industrial or technical operations is required.
Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of training methodologies and adult learning principles.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Proficiency with Learning Management Systems (LMS).
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and safety standards within the gas processing and midstream industry.
  • Knowledge of Alberta gas plant safety regulations and operating procedures.

Additional Requirements

The successful candidate must possess a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence and be legally entitled to work in Canada without requiring sponsorship.
